Review Keys Out, Embargo ends on Feb 3rd

Sorry for repeating question bit from earlier. Anyone seen reviews that talk about settings this game have on launch? Game speeds, maps etc suff that can modify the game experience.

On the other Hand the german "GameStar" did also a Tec and Performance Test and they where pretty excited how smooth the game runs (Article behind a Paywall).
Civilization 7 is a technically pleasingly clean game. (GameStar)
  • Very rar Crashes, and if only when closing the Game.
  • Fast Turntimes on modern PC, even in the modern Age with theier Testfile.
  • Even runs on a 6 year old Notebook with internal Graphics... but very poorly.

Really worried about a lot of different feedbacks on the UI ; I mostly watched videos of YouTube civ streamers more than video game publications reviews than I trust for many game genres but less for games that take a lot of time to truly get the feel of, and most of them seem to really enjoy the gameplay (with some small caveats on how age transitions are managed) but they all complain (with fair points and concrete examples) about the UI (and some UI adjacent stuff like no auto exploration for recon units).
I guess we will get an early patch but that's worrying, finding the relevant info is key in 1 civ game, and tediousness could hurt replayability a lot.

I would go as far to say, based on Marbozir’s video, that the UI (beyond any aesthetic concerns) is a complete disaster.

A staggering lack of information on civilisations, traditions and wonders in the set-up menu and the Civilopedia. No information on which buildings can be built over or not. Very limited tooltips or right-click information. Map search completely gone. It’s actually shocking how bad it is.

Marbozir does this very comprehensively.
Overall perspective was wrong for me in the "good and bad" -videos And I fing Marbozirs style wrong for my enjoyment. Same thing get repeated too many times (maybe from other perspective but essentially same).

But some of the things that video covered:
Showed archipelago map and talked about it, but not others.
Showed advanced settings, but only covered game speed and talked about how online and quick settings work. (Good was the verdict). Also talked about length of standard.
Advanced starts was covered, but already forgot some details as this does not interest me.

Edition. I am also looking for dificulty setting assesments (AI behavior vs static bonuses). Age length setting details and behavior changes with different speends. Etc.

The TheCivShow video from Roman Holiday should answer your questions on the topic of Ai bonus from difficulty.
Thank you!

This one covered difficulties reasonably well in compact video form.

End result however saddens me. AI is only competetive only with more massive bonuses than even previously.

One other thing mentioned that I find surprising is that if you want to add a new building on a tile where you already have 2, you can not select which one is replaced

It seems the UI design philosophy is aiming at not letting too many numbers clutter your screen, but they went in the opposite direction too far; and for players, not knowing "why" from the UI is really frustrating. I hope the devs can reconsider their approach.

I wonder if the dual launch on PC and Console also played a role in the UI design because Firaxis wanted to design an UI that would work for both which required simplifying some things. It is also possible that Firaxis purposely kept info out of the UI so as not to intimidate new players who might get scared off if they see too much info on the screen.

Could it be so that console review keys have not been distrubuted at all? And maybe steam did not have linux and mac port available for reviewers.

I find it bit strange that only reviews seem to be with Windows PCs.

Well New Zealand can start playing this with console in an hour. But it will take some time to get to modern age where PCs start to lag seemeingly.
