I think it is not a question of format (bmp or gif). With scenarios downloaded on the Web, I don't have any problem. But when I copy the people.gif (or bmp) to the directory of a new scenario (and any file, not just the one of a particular scenario) my game doesn't start. I tried to copy the original people.gif from the main directory. It works if I don't modify the file. If I do just the slightest modification in the file (just change a few pixels on a face), I cannot start the scenario. I really don't understand as I have edited dozens of times all others files (units, terrain, icons...) without ever to encounter any trouble. I've even reinstall civ2, but the same happen again !? Should I specify somewhere in the Rules.txt (or Rules.fre as I have the French version) that I use a new people file ?
