Jake’s Guide to Religion

how do people feel about taking a prophet from the liberty finisher and using that to enhance your religion? I have been doing that lately and I like how it works out. That way your second 200 faith goes straight to a missionary to get the spread started, so when you get religious texts from your enhancement it really spreads like wildfire. Of course that requires a liberty start which is not ideal on a lot of maps, but in those instances, it's working well for me.

This is quite useful, but the prospect of rushing a critical wonder with GE is just too good to pass up on. That said:

If you already have a religion, try to time:

A natural Prophet
HS Prophet
Liberty Finisher Prophet

You'll have an enhanced religion, and 8 spreads in your immediate vicinity. That's quite powerful.

Also for ease of spreading religion, I highly suggest you keep your city small, at least until you manage to actually dominate the world with your religion. Low populations mean Higher pressure quicker.

Key words "If you already have a religion".

If you don't have decent enough faith generation, it's usually not a good idea to get a religion, even if you manage the above.

Also, I think the best era to buy religion buildings at the earliest era possible. These provide extra faith as well, so spreading your religion becomes easier in the long run.

I am currently running a game where I have choosen Interfaith Dialoge with Holy Order and a filled Piety Social. Basically it allows me to convert :c5faith: into :c5science: at an acceptable rate. As I started spamming missionaries to foreign cities (without flipping their religion of course) I went from 4th place to 1th quickly.

Any idea how many beakers you are getting when you spread?

It depends on the size of the city. I mainly used it on the celtic capital (Size: 22-24) and got around 200+ beakers for a single use, so about 400-500 Beakers per missionary, more if you have the wonder which allows for 3 uses.

woops... missed that part! Even then I find that if I am able to pick religious texts all I need to do is spread my religion to four cities and then natural spread will kick in, unless something like what happened in Maddjinns Mayan LP occurs! I would much rather save the faith up for purchasing faith buldings

Maybe its just me but the faith buildings are only useful if you are going wide? If you go tall, you end up running out of stuff to spend faith on, and unless you went piety, all those extra great prophets are...not very useful.

I think it depends on the combination of beliefs. If, e.g., you go tall for a culture oriented game, cathedrals with their early artist slot are maybe one of the best choices. In other situations, you could choose a founder belief that gives major profits from spreading your religion as much as possible (interfaith dialogue, any beliefs that provide culture/happiness/faith per foreign city with your religion, etc.). Buying as many missionaries as possible would be an important part of the overall strategy in this case (and better than waiting for more great prophets), so you would want to produce as much faith as you can, which can be hard in a tall game with only two regular buildings to produce it.

Not sure if this have been mentioned or not ( didnt bother reading all of your silly commnets :P )
but a great prophet with mosque of dijenne gains 5 spreads, that means that you can use GP to spread once and then still be able to settle gp tile improvement.

Just a cool little thing
