JOE-03 - Xenophobia Returns

GL in 48 @ Lake Placid. Settler to dyes because that is a fairly cheap city to build. Not much in the way of hammers (but lots of commerce), so it will need to be nursed along. We need to settle west of Bayview so another settler (maybe from Silk Bend) needs to be built so we can get the sugar. This city should be a powerhouse with wheat and sugar. Since Mao put a mine on a grassland, that means only one thing--iron!

Please stop whipping Sanctuary--our income and science goes in the toilet when that is done. We need to get it to the point where it can work both of the hill tiles so that it can build infrastructure. Once it is stagnant and some infra is crucial, a whip can be made.

Please stop whipping Sanctuary

These Japanese warlords are brutal. They chop heads off like making salad. Since we are Japanese I wish to be known as "Migatu san" HAI.....

Good idea Talamane see you are wise. So I guess Armstrong is up and he won't be playing for a while (24 hrs since he stated that in another SG)

(Talamane have you ever been to "mission control"... I would die and go to heaven to see that place.)

@cosmic

NASA? Yes, been there. The "old" mission control is a tourist attraction.

@the SG

My wife loves watching me play this particular game, and she cant wait to see the samurai. She is Korean, but has lived nearly all her life in Japan. She was disappointed that we renamed all the cities.

She was disappointed that we renamed all the cities

Yes I agree let's name them in the tradition of the Japanese. Brass Lions/Silk Bend/Lake Placid are English/American names. I like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Niigata, Akita, Sapporo......that's sounds like the Xenophobes of long ago....

Love those Samurai too...they were quite the warriors.

Migatu

That must have been something Talamane, I've been to Cape Kennedy and just loved that..

EDIT: You are a lucky to have a Korean wife. The Koreans I have met here in Canada are very nice/honest people..(My girlfriend believes she was Japanese in a previous life.)

I like to rename cities to make the civilization feel "special." I'll probably never forget Brass Lions (the terrible little city that could :)) but I couldn't tell you if Kyoto or Osaka was a commerce city or a production city in my last Tokugawa game... that being said, if any one hear speaks Japanese, or knows someone who does, I'd love to give 'em unique Japanese names :)

Okay, I just finished my turns in my other game with Cosmichail, so I'm playing this one now. :)

Hah!

I started playing and kept thinking "wait? haven't we started the GL yet?" "didn't we send a settler out to the dye spot?" Whoops. Wrong save. :smoke: I'll go play the right one now.

Okay, I was about ready to start playing, and I had a question.

Do we want to build the GL in Lake Placid or Silk Bend? Silk Bend has a ton of forests to chop - almost enough to build the whole GL itself. It also has better overall production & will not tie up Lake Placid from working cottages.

Sorry for the big delay - I'm going to play my other SG and then come back to this one later tonight. Right now I'm planning on building the GL in Silk Bend, though. I don't want to tie up everyone's hands with a big build, though.

Silk Bend Sounds good to me armstrong plus we have an academy there. (ARGH) chop, chop, fizz, fizz.....

You da man.....Hope you had some time for Father's day or was it a surprise when he showed up at the buzzer. D'OH.....(My Dad beat me to it called from Holland before I could call him.)

Working the cottage is good in Lake Placid and won't Silk Bend be able to sustain some scientists once it grows ergo GP points ergo National epic maybe...

Okay, short notes today - when it rains it pours :mischief:

First, the save: http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=130325&stc=1&d=1150692822

Second, here's the log:

Spoiler armstrong :

Turn 212 (680 AD)
armstrong: Who put the line of irrigation in for Brass Lions? I didn't know there was one :goodjob:
Lake Placid begins: Archer
armstrong: LP stops working mines and starts on cottages.
Tequila begins: Obelisk
armstrong: Tequila starts on an obelisk.
armstrong: Brass Lions starts on a settler. It doesn't have many good tiles, so it can be our settler pump.
Brass Lions begins: Settler
armstrong: MM Silk Bend for granary in 2, we'll build GL here.
armstrong: Sanctuary needs some worker help... barely enough cottages to work, and it's growing like a weed.
armstrong: Research is bumped to 70% with LP working cottages.
armstrong: Kill some barbs for sport.
While attacking, Axeman defeats (2.40/5): Barbarian Archer
While attacking, Axeman defeats (4.40/5): Barbarian Warrior
While attacking, Hiroshi the Explorer (Axeman) defeats (5.00/5): Barbarian Warrior

IBT:

Turn 213 (695 AD)
Kyoto founded
Kyoto begins: Obelisk
armstrong: Cutting the Silks at Bayview - we'll have calendar soon.
Silk Bend finishes: Granary

IBT:

Turn 214 (710 AD)
Silk Bend begins: The Great Library
armstrong: Silk Bend starts on the GL. 80 turns atm, but when it grows it can work it's hills

IBT:

Turn 215 (725 AD)
Tech learned: Iron Working

IBT:

Turn 216 (740 AD)
Research begun: Calendar
armstrong: IW comes in, Calendar next. We have 4 silks and 3 dyes to cultivate.
armstrong: After that, I'd say CS. :)
armstrong: We have iron in Tequila!
Lake Placid grows: 6

IBT:

Turn 217 (755 AD)
Bayview finishes: Obelisk

IBT:

Turn 218 (770 AD)

Sanctuary grows: 5

IBT:

Turn 219 (785 AD)
Silk Bend grows: 4
Tequila grows: 4
Tequila finishes: Obelisk

IBT:

Turn 220 (800 AD)

IBT:

Turn 221 (815 AD)
armstrong: Great Lighthouse built in a distant land... in 815!?! We might be backwards, but so are the unclean! :)
Lake Placid grows: 7
Bayview grows: 4
Tequila finishes: Courthouse

IBT:
While defending, Axeman defeats (4.30/5): Barbarian Axeman

Turn 222 (830 AD)
Tequila begins: Granary

Third, the short story:

It was mostly builder turns. GL is being built in Silk Bend - we have two workers chopping it in. It needs another mine asap, but our workers are getting stressed out. Sanctuary & Lake Placid also need help from our workers - they're running out of cottages to work! (which is capital in my playbook ;) )

Fourth, the Talking Points:

1. I don't know if we'll get the GL, but given that the Great Lighthouse was built in the 800's... just keep building mines/chopping forests in Silk Bend and I think we will. :)

2. Mao sent two archers to Angle, but I don't think they accomplished anything. I have two axers ready to vulture the city if Stinky leaves it weakened. If he takes it, we need to declare.

3. I ended on turn 222 (or was that 212?) - could someone play 3 extra turns, or two less, so we can get ourself in synch with our decimal counting system? I like being able to use my fingers. (I still have 10? )

4. Brass Lions will produce a settler next turn. I suggest sending him to the site I marked as a potential Heroic Epic city - it's got wheat+cows+plains hills+other goodies. I think we could build barracks/HE there in time for us to pump out Samurai.

5. We're now #2 in the world in terms of GNP, and #3 in production. That feels good!

6. We need to make sure to chop our last obelisks before Calendar comes in - even obsolete, they provide culture. I think it's okay to delay Calendar by researching something else to get an obby up in Sapporo.

7. As far as research goes, I think CS would be great right now.

ROSTER
JesusOnEez - Team Leader
Talamane - wants cities renamed
Armstrong - Just Finished
Berserks01 - UP
Cosmichail - ON DECK

Ok I confused myself, first I agreed with Talamane to build GL in Lake Placid, then I agreed with Armstrong to build in Silk Bend. Like why don't I make up my mind already. However when Armstrong pointed out lots of forests and I knew there was an academy there (BIG DOH) well then why not. With Silk, and two scientist, science should be good. So I hope Jesusoneez agrees since he is the team leader and suggested it go in Lake Placid.

Armstrong I too think CS would be good next for bureaucracy...

The real reason for it going in Silk Bend - as opposed to Lake Placid - was that it didn't "tie up" LP's hands. LP can grow to size 20 if we get enough archers there, and will be a monster city. Growing at +1 food to build GL, as opposed to +4 working cottages, just doesn't make sense. And yes, because of the forests, SB will build the GL faster too. It's win win ;)

Man, you guys are too tense. You should relax ( ) a little every chance you get :p . Cuz you never know when you'll get it again :D

This is a "I got it" btw. Will play tomorrow.

Man, you guys are too tense

As neck muscles stiffen, hey man that's a good idea....It is just a game.

Turn 0 (preflight) - Micro Sanctuary to finish granary faster. You can smell my presense there, it's rolling in diaper filth :), so an aqueduct would do wonders to the place. Everything else looks fine.
Turn 1 - Settler finished, and was lost looking for his way to this theoretical "Heroic Epic City" that armstrong had supposedly marked somewhere on the map. After figuring out that armstrong was probably :smoke: when he said that, our settler makes his way to N of Bayview to the immediate right of the dye.
Turn 2 - Sapporo finishes obelisk, started something.
Turn 3 - Archer finished in Lake Placid, so ordered up another. A couple more and we can start build axes again. Barb axe spotted near Silk Bend.
Turn 4 - Our defending barb kills that barb. I dunno what Mao's doing with his 2 archers but they're not attacking Angle at all, and Angle just produced another archer and he tried to sneak past the 2 axes stationed there. So we take him out.
Turn 5 - Hey, those barbs knows how to crack the whip  , I just saw Angle drop a pop to produce another archer. Moving our settler up N there, revealed another nice suprise.
Turn 6 -
Turn 7 - In the spirit of no renaming (or something like that) Kyoto was found, started on fishing boat (maybe worker would have been a better choice, but nah we'll just send Bayview's worker up there :p ).
Turn 8 - Colossus built somewhere out there.
Turn 9 - Angle's border expanded
Turn 10 - Some barb actions near Angle.
Turn 11 - More barb actions near Angle.
Turn 12 - Yet more barb actions near Angle, and we're only defending here. And the mother of all suprises, Angle's border expanded to push back Sanctuary's border to the river!!! I think Mao's archers probably got converted to barbs somewhere in that fog. Micro Silk Bend to finish GL in 2 turns with it starving a little.
Turn 13 - Brass Lion finished settler, ordered yet another one. Settler is heading towards the place I marked West of Bayview, next player can decide if he wants to settler there or one of the previously marked locations. Angle must burn!!! GL will finish next turn. We can start producing swords after Lake Placid finishes it's archer.

That black fog East of Angle is becoming barb haven, they keep coming out. We need to do something about that quick. Once we have a few swords, Angle must burn for this travesty!!!

I played 2 less turn to even up the turnsets.
ROSTER

Hah! I meant it in all sincerity, but it is kind of a weird spot for it, isn't it?

I like your current layout, though :)

Yeah, they whip a lot in Angle. I've seen it happen at least twice during my turnsets, too. We're getting to know them so well, I almost feel bad that we need to exterminate them...

Great work getting those settlers out. :goodjob:

And we're going to get the GL! With the next scientist from that for an academy in Lake Placid + Civil Service, in about 20 turns we should be doing great research-wise.

Yeah. We probably should get rid of it before they start sending out horse archers or macemen :)

Civ4ScreenShot0134.jpg

Bayview (argh reminds me of an old dumpy bar on the lakeshore) starts worker need some in that area many unworked tiles. And another barb bites the dust. DU DU DU another barb bites the dust… DU DU DU

Turn 10

Kobeyashi Maru finished Lighthouse start archer for defense. Axe take out archer in Uzbek Mao disappears. (maybe we scared him but he said he was studying on “killing us”, as I tried to extort tech but he refuses). Growth in 2 turns in Nagasaki, use citizen for mine to speed up National Epic.

Migatu has finished…..

Talamane san is next…….

EDIT: posting save would help D'OH and FYI 19 turns to GS and CS done in 6 turns
