Join ongoing war

Is there a requirement to join another war. Persia is destroying Rome and I want to help Rome out. I select join ongoing war then persia, but a little red ! Comes up saying offer blocking deal. Any one know how to get it to work?

Have you denounced Persia and waited 5 turns? Other than that, I am not sure. I haven't actually used this new feature. But you do need denouncement, as all joint wars require that now.

And if you are alied with Persia you won't be able to join the war too
