I am proposing the creation of a new thread that will be publicy viewable that will contain the name of any citizen that has been convicted of a violation of the Three Books and the punishment they received.

I am proposing this because when I was Judge Advocate, I had a hard time searching for a defendant's history of convictions and often was able to obtain accurate information.

One idea for the thread is this: The thread should be posted and updated by the moderator (the only person who could continuosly update it, because for all I know, DZ or I might not hold the positions we hold next term). To make sure the moderators have as easy a time as possible, the Judge Advocate or Chief Justice should PM the information to the moderator to post on the thread.

The other option is this: The thread can work like the Judcil Log, with the current Chief Justice posting every time there is a conviction.

This discussion is about if this is a feasable idea and if so, which option to use. This discussion will run for 48 hours, and if there is enoguh interest, I will post a poll on which option to go with.

Naervod
Chief Justice

I think keeping track of this is fine, but I would rather it not be done publicly. Maybe Shaitan or I can open a thread in the staff forum to store and update this information, and anyone who actually needs it (generally the judiciary) can PM one of us to get it.

why? kind of "police record of fanatika" that would be...
which is publically available in rl too >-)

However, these aren't 'crimes' in the same sense of the word as in real life. They are the usually the equivalent of bureaucratic foul-ups, and that sort of record is not made public in RL.

Personally, I don't see why we would need to keep such a thread. As Public Defender, I can see where the information gathered in one place could be beneficial.

One thing I really can't stand is unaccessable, private files kept on citizen's. I guess this would go out to eyrei, as each citizen should be able to see if they're on the Conviction List and the citizens that were convicted should be able to verify their records.

If this information is to be gathered, I would recommend that our current CJ, naervod, post the historical list of convictions in the Judicial Log, followed by any more convictions this Term. Any future convictions, beyond this Term should be posted in the Judicial Log by the CJ at the time. The Judicial Log has very little information in it, so this addition would help fill it out.

It is not as if Shaitan or myself would not answer someone who asked if they had a record. I just don't see any reason to have a thread devoted to it for anyone to view.

a public record maybe with links to the related discussions will propably help to answer some questions for people not able to use the search function though

I think a public record would be better. For example, say there were two equally qualified candidates for an election. I would check the conviction record, and one would have a suspension and one would have a clean record. I would be inclined to vote for the one with the clean record I personally think the Judicial Log-style record would be better.

If I actually thought our justice system had been just throughout history, I would agree with you.

There are problems with our justice system, but keeping it more secret like your proposal would only help to worsen the problem. What we need is an easily accessible, non-secretive system. That way the people will be more confident about the system and it will be more just.

I would support the public records office. I remember once apon a time trying to find out how many times a certain someone had been PIed. I was new and could not find the info. I would have never guessed to ask you eyrei,.

Really, the only thing in a log of these items would be a few warnings. Those have been the worse punishments we have ever handed down this game.

I see a good point for keep such a log, though I wouldn't want to be the poor person who has to search through the polls fourm...

Actually the worst punishment handed down has been a three-day suspension (playing the game to find out how long anarchy would last). ;)

hmm.. This reminds me of that thread that caused controversy in the staff forum. Remember that eyrei and shai? Read page 2 - Thunderfall didn't exactly approve of a "blacklist" type thread.

Another thing to consider - what if a new citizen did something wrong and didn't realize it? It'll be on their record, and they won't be able to enjoy the demogame as much because of that. This starts to walk a very fine line.

What can't you post?
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory...

This type of thread can be viewed as defamatory, and as a forum moderator, I certainly wouldn't accept it.

<rant>And on a side note, I think we have really lost the sense of play in this game. We're too involved in the rules and who did what right and wrong that we forget we even have a game going on. I posted a Trade Discussion thread, and it barely got ANY attention at all! I have yet to see threads on future strategies again. Can we PLEASE get out of this quagemire that we've gotten ourselves into and just play the game!

Demo*game*. It's a game. Fun and all that. Place nice.</rant>

Heck no..... This has to be one of the dummest idea's ever.... I agree with CT.... It's a game.... Relax..... We've almost brought the game to a halt. Worrying about PI's and other crap over what the game was created to be. Let's play Civ3.... like we came here to do.

strider: we almost braught the game to halt? where? when? we are even faster than dg1 before at this phase of the game. so relax.

dis - you call 25 turns in February FAST!? Wow. At this stage of the game in DG1, we had the game in hand (meaning, the industrial age). The Greeks were gearing up to attack the Iroquois while we were building our rail systems then.

I don't see any problem with a public record. The are records of demogame violations. Yes, there is certainly a possibility that they can be taken into account in elections and such. They should be! There should be repercussions for breaking the rules and having a violation follow you (haunt you?) is one of them. There is nothing defamatory about such a listing; it is a repetition of established fact.
