I've found that 7 out of 10 times I start a game, I am right on the edge of a MASSIVE jungle. Is there a way to stop this? Or does anyone else have this problem?
It may have to do with the Civ you are playing, or with the world settings. The germans for example usually start rather far north, the Babylonians more in the middle of the world - near the jungle belt.... Try a different civ!

Are you sure about that??? I've started tons of games as the Americans and I have about the same chance of starting in the middle as I do near one of the poles. You certainly are correct about the world settings.
I can usually tell what type of terrain you will get just by where you start on the map. On pangea/wet/warm/5 billion, all the jungle is usually right by the equator, and all the good stretches of grassland are near the poles (very little tundra on a wet/warm map). So I just restart, when I see I am at the equator, because there will be tons of jungle around. And on a huge map, jungles are massive! Just start a bunch of games, and retire right away, then you can start seeing a pattern of how the terrain is set up for different map settings.
