Jurrassic Park might have had some more interesting shooter games if it had at least come out (probably the movies more then the novel) during the 64 bit era of the N64, PSX, and Even the Dreamcast or later.
Unfortunately, it came out right in the prime of the 16 bit era, which lead to a few so-so games... but then games based on movies are junk most of the time anyway.
Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis was a platforming game that let you play as Grant OR a Raptor. The grant part was pretty standard pitfall stuff, but the raptor portion of the game was kind of fun. It really didn't give you enough of a killer dinosaur feel though, but I blame that on the limits of the systems at the time.
The Super Nintendo version was a top down + FPS shooter. The island itself was top down and was down right MASSIVE to explore. Unfortunately there was no in game mapping system or even a lot of clues, so it was frustratingly easy to get lost unless you really payed attention. The FPS portions were decent for a 16 bit system, very doom like, but painfully slow paced and lacking in variety as you only faught raptors and the spitters in them. All in all though, I really enjoyed this game at the time.
There was also a Jurrassic Park II for the SNES, but it was done in a contra style sidescroller and was extremely hard and frustratingly confusing. I never made it very far in this game and it didn't offer anything special to make it worth finding anyway, in my anyway.
Really though, I don't think Jurrassic Park from the Novels or even the movies offer a lot of content for a good game without giving the audience a sense of "the book was better" or "this is just plain stupid". But then if you wanted a game about being or beating dinosaurs, what better title to give it then Jurassic Park to boost sales, even if the game was junk? Curse you marketting department for knowing how to get to our wallets!
