Hey all - I'm not much of a tech guy, but I'm a monster fan of Civlization 4. I've had to play the game on my Dell Inspiron 5100 for the past year. 7500 Radeon, 515 MB RAM.....complete disaster. Really hard to complete a full game because of how slow it operated.

I just bought a new laptop that, I think, is beastly. I'd like to know how you guys think it'd play Civilization 4 Beyond the Sword. Obviously, I want to max all settings out.

Specs:

- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40GHz)

- 50% OFF 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS!!

I'd love some feedback!

Thanks in advance, you guys rock!

I have not tried Civ 4 on Vista 64, I use the 32 bit version, but apart from that, my system is quite similar to yours. Civ 4 runs flawlessly on my system.

I have the LG P300 with exactly the same processor, graphics card (but 128mb instead of 512mb) and amount of RAM as you... I have never tried huge maps, but the laptop works awesome with Standard sized maps in the Modern era while fighting battles.

You have a great processor, good RAM, and a decent videocard. You should be fine for performance. :) Great choice picking your parts.

Ah, thank god. I'm so excited to rip off my first Earth 18 Civ game. This system can't come soon enough. July 2nd estimated build date, my ass.

The processor is basically the "deciding factor" for Civ4, and you have a nice one for a laptop. I wouldn't be surprised to see some lag between turns with 18 civs, but it will definitely be playable. The videocard, while it isn't very good, should be able to handle Civ4. Don't be expecting max settings + 8xAA though. :)
