Here's a sample of some traits that, I think, could be interesting to add to the game. Feel free to add your own.

Diplomatic:
+1 relations with all civilizations.
Double production speed of the United Nations wonder.
25% faster production of missionaries.

Spying:
+10%:espionage: in all cities.
Double production speed of Intelligence Agency and Security Bureau.

Scientific:
All buildings supplying a :science: percentage bonus receive an additional +5%:science:.
Double production speed of Observatory and Laboratory.

Agricultural:
+1:food: to all tiles producing 4:food: or more.
Double production speed of Grocer and Supermarket.

Entertainment:
+5%:culture: slider for free. (Cannot send the total of sliders over 100%; cannot adjust the slider until Music is researched.)
Colosseum provides +1 :) per 15% :culture:.
Double production speed of Broadway, Rock & Roll, and Hollywood wonders.
(This trait would work best if sliders can be set in increments of 5%.)

Corporate:
Zero maintenance costs of corporations (does not hinder benefits, such as :culture:).
Double production speed of Market, Bank, and Wall Street.

Draconian:
+50% :hammers: boost from Slavery.
Drafting produces two units for the cost of one.
Double production speed of Monument and Jail.

==========

OK I'm sure some of these are overpowered (*cough* Agricultural), so feel free to suggest tweaking them. But just remember, this is JUST FOR FUN. :)

Spying and Entertainment aren't even adjectives. And Diplomatic is useless in MP.

How about positive feedback or an encouraging reply instead of an undertone of contempt.

@tbooth: Corporate seems a bit overpowered but I like the concepts of agricultural and diplomatic although mechaerik raises the point of diplomatic's inutility in multiplayer. Agricultural seems a bit overpowered too, but interesting.

This ones rather ridiculous but fun :D

Brash
Units start with 4exp
+1:mad: during wartime
x1.5 movement of all transport units

25% faster production of missionaries and executives.

Seems out of place. Faster missionaries should go with spiritual and executives with financial

Entertainment is too similar to creative

Diplomatic is nice and has potential

I've thought of these myself, Diplomatic would also get +50 % road production

Also

Navigator/Explorer: +2 LOS, always beneficial bonus from huts, Double production speed of harbor, Customs house, Settlers/Workers get +20 % evade chance

Technical/Strategic: +5% combat odds, need 10% less espionage points needed for missions and info

Clairvoyant: Can see all resources on map if have prerequisite tech (mining will reveal copper but not able to use it) able to know if a wonder is being built by someone else. (if you have tech to build it)

Religious: Religion has no diplo effect (like if you had free religion) all religious buildings +25 % production

Diplomatic is next to useless, I'll take protective over that easily.
Some are overpowered.
Agricultural and Draconian are beyond overpowered.
Having too late game benefits is not useful either.

Exploratory:
Free scout at start (starting with hunting means having two scouts)
All ships, except working boats, start with Navigation I promotion
Air units start with RangeI and II promotions (=+2 operational range)
Double production speed for all spaciships components

Hmm, I like that Nav/Expl trait :)

I don't think that double production should be applied to particular wonders, just not right in my opinion.

Paranoid
+15% espionage in every city
+ in every city
double production speed of jail, security bureau, intelligency agentcy
-1 diplomatic relations

:crazyeye:

Braggart

+:) for thinking they're the best empire around.
+:culture: for having the best known wonders that is built on an obscure island.
+:hammers: for having the best iron and copper around.
+ :science: for having the best minds around.
+ :food: for having the best wheat ever grown.
Negative diplomacy for having obscure tribes as vassals.
Diplomatic relationships with rival empires never rises above annoyed.
Golden Ages are voided since every turn is a golden age.
Great persons are voided as the king is the greatest king all around.

Annoying
No, wait, Zara has a lock on that one already.
How about:
Peaceful
+6 Diplo bonus with all civs
No diplo penalty for trading with another civ's rival
Open Borders with all civs
Military unit support costs +100%
Defensive improvements (Walls, Castle), Great Wall and Chichen Itza -50% cost

Incessant

-1 diplo point with everyone else
Will contact you every other turn without fail, even if you wipe out his civ

Exploratory would be way overpowered. Combine +50% SS construction with Space Elevator and you are all but guaranteed SS Victory.

I always wanted a Scientific trait like in Civ III, but it would be hard to balance it out.

Peaceful would mean Gandhi would win an early Diplo victory ridiculously easily.

If the new traits were added to the existing ones, maybe: an early Diplo victory would depend on the makeup of the AP.
It's just as likely that a Culture vulture like Sury would be a strong contender for an early Cultural victory with the Peaceful trait negating the need to build an offensive force.
Now that I think of it. I'd probably add "Can not declare war," to the trait and remove "No Diplo penalty for trading with another civ's rival."
In any case, the existing traits are the result of much thought at Firaxis so I'd be presently surprised if we came up with a new one that wouldn't be unbalanced and that could be realistically applied to some Civ. My own suggestion is dead out on the latter grounds. The only nation that comes to mind when you mention the word "peaceful" is Switzerland. The Swiss are peaceful but they're not pacifistic. Their ancestors, known to the Romans as the Helvetii, were a thorn in the side of Rome. In the Middle Ages the Swiss made a habit of repelling every invader who coveted their lands. These days Switzerland remains armed to the teeth.
