Has the self destructing AI under Communism been addressed? By this i mean where all their cities end up size 1 and permanently unhappy due to conscription and forced labour. If so, how?

You see, I have read the readme and it wasn't clear from this how this has been tackled other than by reducing the number of unhappy turns sacrificing population causes to 20...

If this is the only modification implemented to prevent the AI from sacrificing till all their cities are size 1 and permanently unhappy, then i am concerned. Reason being, the AI has a real appetite for forced labour and drafting citizens under Communism and thus i can't see how the 20 turns would make a great deal of difference to 40?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. :)

Thanks in advance and great work

Though anoying, I don't see cities self-destructing under communism to be a problem they should address. The civ in question is usually on the brink of annihalation when this happens.

What I would like to see are the side effects for the conquorer reduced. The return of the 20 turn expiration of unhappiness is a start, but removal of "unhappiness transfer" and a reduction of oppression-related unhappiness when conquored by a more enlightened form of government.

You have to be joking?!!? Just pick a nation to go to war and as long as you can initially hold your own, you'll soon find the vast majority of their cities size 1 entertainer with 1 shield production...

Eventually it just becomes a case of mopping up..

Actually, I've never seen a civ even switch to communism unless it was getting it's @ss handed to it. So that's where my impression comes from.
Still, it's the effects and not the behavior that need to be changed. It is a legitimate strategy. In fact, many human players used to do it in the early game. (maybe some even still do. :whipped: )

I am curious to Firaxis response on this one . . . sometime soon I hope (hint, hint).

Actually you guys (and gals) do a great job of listening to our gripes, suggestions and thoughts. We respect the fact that you take time out of your day to post responses to our questions and explain the different logics that go into the game.

Keep up the good work!

MORE NATIONALITYS PLEASE :goodjob:

Anything beats "working" right, back to "work". Is it 5:00 yet?

i've seen this a few times also in games where there is continuous wars. I was annoyed because even the americans and english were communists even tho in the editor it was their shunned government. same game, russia on its own island was a democracy..YIKES

Inherited unhappiness isn't really a problem any more. The probelm used to be that worldwide opinion really frowns on genocide (razing opponent cities). Before, a city that wasn't automatically destroyed would have to be captured to keep your nation in good standing. Now, as far as the ReadMe states, you can capture the city and then abandon it. I'm not sure if your international reputation goes down by abandoning a city with foreign nationals in it, but if having that 1 entertainer is a pain, which it always is, just abandon the city and bring in your own settler.

Does anyone know what "abandon city" does to unhappiness (self-created and inherited)?

I`d guess there`s no difference between abandoning via settler or abandoning via abandon command, so unhappiness will get transfered, but is that true?????

From a (partial?) log of the chat posted by Spiffor over at Apolyton.

"(draz3) In what way did the AI change in the latest patch? Soren?
(Soren_Johnson_Firaxis) draz: the AI's flexibility in using units and hurry/draft decision have been improved. "

I believe i read somewhere that unhappiness WILL get transfered to the nearest city using the abandon fuction.
