Just started into BtS and was wondering about the Warlords Barbarians scenario

I learned how civ4 combat mechanics work from the Warlords barbarian scenario. Learned a lot about stack and unit combos, siege, UUs, garrisons, etc. But nay, BtS combat mechanics are really different. I'm wondering... is there a facsimile of the Barbarian scenario for BtS, or can the scenario be converted over to BtS (legally)? I don't know how the compatability for scenarios works either, obviously; is it as simple a matter as moving the scenario to the BtS \Mods folder lol?

It would not be compatible if you moved it directly. There are significant schema changes that would stop it from loading.

I'm not sure about the legality of converting and releasing it.

I imagine converting it would be acceptable, as that's no more of a mod than anything else modifying the main game (and see the NextWar 'fix' mod by jkp, for example). I don't know how hard it would be, on the other hard

Converting it is perfectly legal. Releasing it, however, is another story. Not everyone here has Warlords.

There is nothing in the Warlords Barb mod that is specific to warlords. Don't worry about those saying it isn't legal or whatnot. If you put that time into moding it then you can release it. If that isn't the case then let someone from Fraxis say we can't do it.

The scenario itself, however, is specific to Warlords. It is not included in BtS. Scenarios were a main selling point of the Warlords expansion pack. There is nothing wrong with converting it, but releasing it would allow people who never bought Warlords to play the scenario. It's like converting the Final Frontier mod to vanilla.

I will agree that what you say "sounds" logical on its face, but can you point to any section of the user agreement or any post by an official Fraxian that says we can't or that they would preffer we didn't?

After all, BtS includes everything from Warlords except the scenarios, and updating a Warlords scenario to work in BtS is doing somthing that Fraxis should have done themselves.

Bottom line, I agree that your sentiment seems logical and straight forward, but you putting energy into making the Warlords thing work in BtS makes it a new and unique intellecial property and doesn't enfringe on Fraxis making money from Warlords their for you are within the moding rights given to you by Fraxis. Changing somthing from Warlords to BtS is completly different then making Warlords or BtS stuff work for vanilla.

Is there a way to converting it? Is there a way to download it or somehow get it for the BTS? I happen to like that scenario the best from WL

Yeah siege is very different on BtS (i remember THAT blindsiding me HARD as I played my first BtS games) and there are more civs.
