I love the visual of the Katyushas -- however, the devs missed a golden opportunity to pair that with the terrifying sound those rockets made when launched. That whoosh whoosh whoosh sounds.....
I believe they were known by the enemy as Stalin's organ.
Note - I haven't seen if the Stukas have a custom sound effect either -- that may be another miss by the devs!
When they first ran into them the Germans called them either 'Stalin's Organs" or "Lenin's Organs" because of the noise they made: since the early systems were all very short ranged (3 - 5 km) they could hear the multiple 'swoosh' as they took off and also the multiple blast when they hit..
But "Katyusha" (Russian for "Little Kate") was also a nickname, given to them by the Soviet soldiers and taken from a popular song in the Soviet Union just before the war.
Officially, they were 'Guards Mortars", a cover name to conceal exactly what type of weapon they were.
And for a real historical footnote, the 82mm and 132mm rockets were originally designed to be air to air weapons, fired from mounts on the wings of fighters to take down bomber and break up enemy formations, and were used that way against the Japanese over Khalkin-Gol in 1939* - and only later adopted for ground launching from a rail system mounted on trucks or light tanks.
From the graphic, they are showing the BM-13, or mobile 132mm rocket launch system, the most common of the various types of multiple rocket launch systems the Red Army used from 1941 to 1945.
* = they were a complete failure at this, being far too inaccurate to hit even the slowest heavy bomber at any range.
