Are you tired of seeing this civ performing like crap?

2 things would make them behave much better.

1. Get Bronze working.
In at least half the games they start in a heavily forested area, but they don't seem to realize that they need bronze working in order to actually build their cottages etc... I usually end up giving it to them but the damage is done. Their to far behind. Something needs to be done so that they get bronze working. - Or something needs to be done so they can chop down forests.

2. Change thier world spell:
There world spell works ... really bad. Several times I've seen them use it - in only one case did it actually do anything for them (Their enemies sued for peace to attack someone else). Typically their enemies just keep building units, wait out the sanctuary, and then attack in overwhelming numbers. It doesn't help that the spell kicks out their allies as well - I couldn't even get in there and help them set up a defense in the one game i tried. I've come to the conclusion that for the AI, they would be better off to NOT use the spell.

Suggest making sanctuary a glorified (+60%? or +1 stregnth, +30%...) homeland promotion on all units that has a 5% change of wearing off... or maybe that only last for one turn - but renews it self automatically on all units for 30.

Interesting... in my games the Elohim are consistently one of the most powerful civs. I wish I could get everyone else to do as well.

They actually built archers to defend their towns. An odd number of civs never do this. Still steamroll them, and they never seem to have the troop numbers that other civs do. Is this because of pacifism?

I think if the Elohim were geared twoards building a larger army, but only defensively (IE. Archers and Monks instead of Warriors and Horsemen) they would be more durable military wise.

And their world spell is fine.

You have some good suggestions for improving the AI of the Elohim, but, frankly, like the others mentioned in this thread they are generally one of the stronger adversaries in the AI civs.

Now, if they could use their advantage to go for an Altar Victory (like I do when I am playing them), they would really be something. ;)

I think the main problem is Pacifism.

Pacifism is really useful in the early game IMO, great for getting an early academy or religious shrine, I almost allways convert to pacifism early game when using a spiritual leader. If the elohim got spiritual back then they could take advantage of pacifism earlly game before switching easilly into something else. I think that would improve the elohim and make them much more fun to play.

I agree - this is particularly true with Einion Logos with his PHIL trait.

However, if you are playing with the raging barb option you cannot keep Pacifism too long as you need to build up some defenders to be ready in case the ai barbs pick on you first. Those units cost gold and I have to switch to Religion or Nationhood quickly.

Sigh, yes, those were the good old days when the Elohim had that Spiritual trait which just made so much sense for their civ.

Wow - this civ has been in my last 7 games at least, playing emperor - epic, if that has anything to do with it - and the only time they did adequate was when I on purpose destroyed some cives surrounding them, and there starting location happed to be in a spot that wasn't all woods. But.. 7 is not alot.. I could just have had a run of bad luck... where the Elohim are concerned.

EDIT: I was just wondering if their world spell perhaps doesn't scale with the change from normal to epic? That might be part of it...

They usually do fine in my games. Granted, they vassalized to me in my last game, but the was because they were sqiuzzed on the corner of the contanant, with me to the south, and Cardith Lorda's sprawling empire to the east. (I think Lorda was settling Great people or something in his settlments, they had huge culturale borders.

They had probably used their world spell and had a civic/wonder allowing them to run bards in all cities.

World speel, that might have been it.

Not a direct connection, but giving 2 of defense to corindale would help a little, like archers which has 3/5 corindale should 0/2.
