Hi,
I was playing Civ III, clicked on the turn button and walked away to look at the TV. When I came back a couple minutes later, my computer had a Kernal Panic! When I rebooted (had to unplug to reboot), my clock was reset to 12/31/1969 at 5pm. Weird! I wasn't running any other programs at the time. I will load up the auto-save and try again. I hope this was just some weird, isolated quirk. Weird that I would get it while playing a game though. The only other time I have gotten Kernal Panic was after installing iTunes before they fixed it. Just very weird. I will let you know if it repeats.

Ummmm.... sorta, but worse in my opinion. Basically, these black letters on a white background come up saying "Kernal Panic .....etc" It is a major crash. You can't just force-quit or reboot. Usually you have to unplug the comp and plug it back in. If it is a major Kernal Panic, it won't let you reboot even after unplugging and re-plugging it in. I had to totally re-install my system files when iTunes Kernaled my system. Even Apple thought that the crash was weird. Had *never* seen it that bad before I guess. They ended up transferring my from the basic tech, to a specialist and then to a programmer, who was even stumped. Lots-o-fun, I tell you. If you never see a Kernal Panic, count yourself a fortunate person.

Sorry, but what is a 'kernal panic?' Simply a crash?

A kernel panic is OS X's cute little way of puking it's guts out. Other UNIX systems have them too. I had KPs regularly on my dual 800 running Civ III until I had the flaky motherboard replaced under warranty. They are usually caused by software, but can, as in my case, be caused by hardware problems. I posted a few threads about them in this forum... just search with keyword "kernel" (but you do have to spell it right). ;)
