Wow, weird.

Anyone seen this before? Seems Ragnar wants me to kill Pericles.. his own vassal. Can't work out why, but hell, good pretext for war if ever i needed one.

Not sure how long since p. capitualted coz i'm a touch stoned but i just found this distinctly odd.

A bug maybe?

If you declare war on the Greeks, do you also declare war on their masters (the Vikings)? That would be cool:

"Do you want me to attack you? Declare war on my vassal!" :D

Are you sure he's still his vassal? Often AIs ask for your assistance in the turn they declare war, so my guess would be that Pericles broke free from Ragnar in that turn, Ragnar declares war on him and wants you to join in.

Soon as I agree to war I declare on both of them.

Wasn't that long ago they were at war so i know it is a recent vassalage.

So now i'm getting to clear out a close neighbour. all's good

Maybe he became a vassal on this turn. So if you went back one turn, then clicked enter, you'd get the message saying Pericles has capitulated and become a vassal of Ragnar. However Ragnar asks you for the help before this happens, its just the screen only pops up after the war is over.

Several times before ive had this ask for help message yet i realise that peace has been declared so i am fighting on my own.

So in between turns this happens
1. Ai decides to ask human for help
2. Ai makes peace with civ they are attacking (in your case, capitulation was involoved in the peace treaty)
3. The screen pops up with the Ai asking for help.
Its the order that is wrong - it should go 2,1,3 to stop this bug. (so if 2 happens, 1 can't)

A save would be good to check my theory

I got the same with War Kwong who made Toku capitulate. He stayed on furious/annoyed toward Toku, who was annoyed at me (WK went from friendly to cautious toward me over time, as I kept refusing)

On a regular basis WK kept trying to get me to declare war on his vassal Toku or to get me to stop trading with him.

I don't see the advantage the AI would get from this instead of simply declaring war on me with its vassal and it looks like a bug : the regular diplomatic triggers still operate as if the fact that's a vassal-master combo wasn't taken into account.

And I guess if you accept, the master civ declare war on you, not on its vassal?

I thought they fixed this bug...?

It`s Ragnar, he only cares about the death and destruction of friends and foes alike. Obviously this is one of his well schemed plans of making you think of an easy opportunity to gang up on his weak vassal, and will stab you in the back as soon as he can.

Or an AI spawned off a colony civ which also is Greece, which you haven't met yet, but Ragnar wish to conquer?

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.
Kill my vassal. Kill my vassal.
Monty barking. Do he bite?
Kill my vassal. Kill my vassal.
Spy in his city, steal his tech.
Then his capital I start to wreck.
Got no reason. What the heck?
Kill my vassal. Kill my vassal.
C-I-L-L my vassal!

I had stalin ask me to declare war on SittingBull, which i did, then immediatly after sitting bull ask me to trade world maps which i did, which then the peace message popped up, then Ragnar ask me to declare war on sittingbull. Which i did.... Sitting Bull hated me double, because i declared war twice.. in one turn lol.
