KK-01 – Fear of Flying

Well decide to try and keep up the fast pace of play that this SG has definitely managed.

Initially a quick look round our empire for any interesting things I should bear in mind.

Always nice to be at war and inherit a SOD like this one, looks suitable for a bit of :hammer:

Take a last look at the new world which looks a lot harder to crack than what remains of FDR

And what is this I find 2 unused GP's, well why not finish the game with a Golden Age!!

Anyway the warfare was absolutely standard fare the only challenge being to do it in 5 turns not the 6 -8 Kikinit had predcited. (5 turns was the minimum as the furthest city was four turns movement away)!!

And what do I discover that nearly throws a complete spanner in the works. FDR has a settler on the loose trying to find a bolthole where (for some strange reason) I have a worker but military is on the other side of the sea. Luckily our culture stops him settling

Anyway we just manage it in 5 turns by 1775 and it is nice to see Isabella smiling. As I rarely play her and usually end up with religious differences she normally has a "face like a bulldog chewing a wasp" when I encounter her!!

Thanks for a genuinely fun SG, I enjoyed the fast pace and smoothly realised strategy.

p.s Team Fear of Flying for SGOTM

:goodjob: Good job team! :goodjob:

Ralph could you please upload the turn before the conquest victory so that I can add the game to my HoF.

EDIT: Oh, haha, you editied it with the upload after I typed this out

Ok.. Team Fear of Flying it is. If we can get a score like that, we will be doing well. The SGOTM is at monarch level though so it will be a lot tougher. I have never got a score that high in my SP games!

And finally I have won a SG without going to space. Thanks guys it was a great SG as we didn't have hardly any skips (if any, I can't recall) and we totally :hammer: the AI.

Any body interested in trying an SG at the next higher difficulty? We could set it up to be the same settings (or similar) to the SGOTM and use it as practise.

Yes, definitely. It would be nice to do some :hammer:ing with some more modern units. I've still yet to use a modern armour. Maybe Monarch, Continents?

I think I will set one up in the next few days and let the guys from this SG have first preference. I believe a fractal map is the way to go nowadays and I would turn off raging barbs as they gave us a big help in this game by keeping everyone on our main island.

Fractal will have some AI on other islands and will most definitely be more of a challenge.

By the way Ralph, that save is after the win. We need one save earlier. Or the replay file is enough to put it into your HOF I think.

I noticed that settler on the island NE of Seville on my last turn set. I dropped the worker there to chop all the forests before FDR could. Looks like he was afraid to settle due to our massive culture.

Well played all. I'd definitely be up for a monarch game if you guys want to kick it up a level.

Just curious K - why did you raze so many of the cities you took from FDR? More population means more score and it didn't look like our economy would be crashing.

I guess this is the file you want.

I would definitely be up for a similar monarch game with an emphasis on discussing how our strategy should be different post the patch

I wondered what the worker was doing too. And the frigates and caravels that were around couldn't pick the worker up. I could have done it with the galleons I built but by then I had forgotten about him.

Um... I wasn't thinking about score at the time, I was thinking about whether or not I wanted to keep the city. I guess for score reasons I should have kept them all. I wonder how much difference it would make?

Thanks for that save Ralph. I will go load it up and get it in my HOF now.

Weird thing, when I load the save and play the finish, I get a score of 51148. Much more than Ralph's 42600.

Another point is that we didn't waste many hammers on settlers. We only founded 4 towns and razed 20. Don't know how many we finished with.

Mike. I also noticed that I wasn't the only one a razing spree. Ralph didn't leave many cities behind. One thing that leaving no cities behind does is it frees you to move on to the next one quickly without leaving behind enough defenders to make sure it doesn't get taken back.

Re diffierence in scores between our two machines 'fraid I have no idea about that one, would be interested to see what scores other people get in their HOF,

Re razing cities, I must admit I don't play for "score" so to speak so I razed FDR's cities as it "made" life easier and I was just aiming to finish in the minimum number of turns.

Obviously I will bear score in mind for the SGOTM.:)

Monarch is a real leap up from Prince, IMHO, especially post the patch so will definitely be a challenge. Then again we can learn as much from losing as winning.
