Whilst that may be true (and I don't know if it is), I was referring to a tactic where pistol armed calvary line up in a couple of rows. The first row rides towards the enemy infantry and fires and then splits into two columns which form up again as the last row (to reload).

I think the name of this tactical move is very apropriate then.

Why? Is it something to do with the shape of the sea shell?
