Kruelgor's WW2 Europe

My goal is not to create a WW2 simulator, but to create a time machine back to August 1934 when Hindenburg dies and Hitler becomes Fuehrer and Reich Chancellor of Germany. You then play the role of the leader of your choice. You'll have the opportunity to alter history if you're able, or you can follow the historical path if you wish, but there are no guarantees that the end result will be anything like that of true history. There will be numerous city states for you to make allies with. The fate of Europe will be in your hands!

It took kiwitt YEARS to correct the original Road to War inaccuracies
And it took me a year and a half to write the original! :mischief:
Yeah so three and a half years to create an accurate WWII scenario!

(Dale, you wrote the strong foundation it was made on)
To which I am deeply indebted ... ;)

Neither of us (Dale and myself, + many civfanatics contributors - including a Former Navy Pilot :) ), also did not want a WW2 Simulator.

As to your goal - this is very much how Road to War - "Open-Play" works (albeit starting in 1936 instead of 1934).

RtW has effectively 3 versions - The Original (with BTS - an earlier version released here as well), The Ultimate (Dales update), which includes additional maps and scenarios and my version (Historical) which effectively refines the historical aspects of the original European Scenario (Pacific Scenario to Follow). As to a WW2 "simulation", none of our versions are either. The events are simply a declaration of war, how your carry out that war is up to you as a player. It is still a game where each outcome is effected by random calculations.

While not to dissuade you from your goal, WW2 is so vast that it is not easily replicated. I too, will be making a WW2 Scenario, however this will be based on as much historical fact and events as possible, as I think it will be completely odd for Britain to declare war on France or the USA, which your version could allow.

I found RtW so much work I am NOT doing a WW2 scenario for Civ5. ;)

Also, be prepared for players to nit-pick on the tiniest details too, even going as far as to flame you for your decisions. :p

I know ... I have read virtually all of the discussions in the Road to War dedicated forum.

Haha. I have a notorious reputation with various gaming forums all over the planet for not succumbing to "nit-pickers" and flamers. They phase me zero, and I usually don't respond to them. Ignoring them is how I deal with them.

Can't you transfer the Civ4 files and convert it into Civ5 format?
No ... RtW is also an SDK/Python Mod. These types of mods take time.

It sounds as if all you will be producing will be just a map of 1934 Earth .... is that correct.

1934 Scenario for Europe (not earth) with a unique tech-tree for each major power, with alliances, friendliness, and hostilities preset to set the stage for WW2. However, it's up to you how you will rule and shape the course of history.

Do you think it was a mistake for Hitler to invade Russia, or do you want to take advantage of Russia's unpreparedness and seize control of vital resources? That oil in the caucasus looks tempting too!

As Germany, you want to try a beachead invasion of England?

As England, you want to reinforce Poland with allied troops in 1938?

As America, you want to accelerate your involvement in the European War or remain an isolationist and improve your internal infrastructure instead?

As Russia, do you want to accelerate your military preparedness or improve your internal infrastructure?

As Italy, are you sure you want to ally with Germany?

It will all be up to you?

SDK and python won't transfer over. Most of the war code is in the DLL and obviously the UI changes won't come over into Lua.

The XML is all changed around, so those files are now useless.

The nif models aren't used in Civ5, would have to use blender to convert all of them to fbx's and then import into Nexus to convert to fsxml and gr2's.

The maps would be the easiest bit. :p

It is not a WW2 scenario then.

Should simply call it 1930's Europe.

That's the tough part. Finding the right blend between good game play and realism.

Should simply call it 1930's Europe.

That would be ******** since it obviously will go into the 1940's as well. The hostility and multiple elements of temptation preset into the scenario will guarantee war, but the alliances could be different depending on the player's pre-war diplomatic strategy. It will definitely be called WW2 Europe, but thanks anyway for your input.

Hearts of Iron is based on this kind of set up.

One thing I would like to do is disable the ability to make peace once war has started. Total war - Total annihilation.

I'm also considering not having any leaders at all, but instead labeling the leaders as a national name instead. This would eliminate the unrealistic portrayal of having the same leader throughout the whole time period such as beginning and ending with James Ramsay MacDonald as the British Prime Minister for instance, Winston Churchill didn't gain the position until 1940.

..., but thanks anyway for your input...
Be sure to check out the links I gave you earlier ... to give you good information ... especially about population levels in the 1930's. They are significantly different to today's cities. In many cases a giant metropolis today was a mere town of 10,000 people in the 1930's.
