Kuriotates and Cities

sorry for restarting up an old thread but this seems the most appropriate place to post.

so i guess this isn't going to change then, automatically making captured cities city hubs if you haven't reached the limit? wasn't expecting this in my first game as kuriotates. to me, a new player, the intuitive thing would have been to at least have a choice in the matter. i found out the hard way, since i was sharing borders with varn gosam, that damn backstabber.

but, i was thinking, instead of automatically making city hubs, how about automatically making settlements. cause when you start off with a settlement, you can (somewhat) easily change it into a city hub.

is there any way to change a city hub into a settlement? if not, is there any way to delete an already created city? never had to do this before so don't know how to do it. i remember the old CIV games had it, but when i was poking around i didn't see any option in civ4.

one last thing, do settlements stay stuck at 1 population? i only have 1 settlement so far, and it might have something to do with it being built in a barren iceland, but even when i get it to work a 2 food tile, it still doesn't grow. does it not count the city tile resources or is extra food being consumed without it appearing on the city info screen?

There is no way to get rid of a city except by deleting it in worldbuilder.

As for settlements, they cost twice as much food- so it takes >4 food for it to grow to pop 2.

how about making it possible to draft units from settlements? That would encourage people to make them farming villages that go up to as high a size as possible in population, so that when its time to go to war you round up all the farmers, give them a weapon, and march them off to war.

But they grow so slowly, it would seem to be a waste.

It wouldn't be a waste because settlements don't do anything else. You are not hoping for them to get big so you can get a great person out of them. You're not waiting for anything because they don't do anything now.

It would be a good use for the settlement because it would be the only possible use for the settlement.

I like how settlements are just for expanding your territory and getting resources. Kuriotates focus should be on the main 3 (or depending on mapsize) cities.

So I have an idea - perhaps Kuriotates could have a 3 city limit (or # approp. to map size) with the exception being that if they capture another civ's *original* capital (ie., their 1st city, presumably their true "hub") it would stay a city vs. shrinking quickly down a settlement.

I just can't get over how I recently played a game as Kurio where I (finally) took over Evermore, the size 30 Fellowship of Leaves Holy City that had numerous wonders in it, only to watch it become a size 6 "settlement". I would think Kurio, using his enlightenment, would view Evermore as a highly potnntial city, not a settlement prospect.

Only issue with this idea is if a Civ's capital gets captured or they choose to swap it - not sure how that would work.
