Is there any way to label a unit, or army? Like 3rd Armored Division? Or something like that...
That was always a neat draw from some of the other tactical games I have played.

You can label a unit if they've produced a Great Leader. I'm not sure if you can label an army though (I don't think you can)...

I am not sure what you mean. You can label a GL?
Or use a GL to label the unit?

You can label the unit that spawned the gl. This doesnt give it any special abilities, however.

I read somewhere in one of the previews of PTW that there is a labelling function for units included. It was only in one article though, so I'm not sure if it's correct. Really would be cool, though... :-)

Dutch...you can label the GLs with whatever you want, you just can't do it during the game. In the Civ3 Editor, you can create your own list that generates the GL names. Instead of "Pyrrah", I have "Dave".

There are more detailed instructions on how to do this in the back of the manual if you need them.

OK Dragonlord - thanks for the headsup - can't have any typos in the quote section - especially when I am quoting RE. Lee. Any Virginians will kick the crap outta me for that. You don't screw with that.

Veder - yea, I figured the editing feature will allow you to change a couple of names. I really wanted to slap a name on in a regular single player random game. This helps me in strategy when I decide to invade the computer's territory.
Like: 1st Army, 1st Division or 101st Airborne. Crap like that.

Dragonlord is right, I read a thread where a firaxian confirmed, that you can label ALL units

How then do you rename? I have PTW and couldn't figure out how to do it. After getting a GL, I renamed my cav.....but how
do you do it without GL?

If you select the unit, and hit Shift-N, it will bring up a dialog box to rename any unit. According to the manual, there is also supposed to be a unit action button, (abc), but I didn't see that.

I believe there's an option in preferences to turn on "advanced unit function buttons" or something like that. If you select this option, the "abc" button will appear for all units.

Thanx Justus and cmaz......good to know.
I'll try it tonight. (@ work now/slacking)

I love renaming my units. I rename key land units and all of my major ships are named. The carriers Kiev and Lenin are off the coast of America right now providing close air support to the Modern Armour divisions who just took Miami and are moving on to Buffalo.

The Kiev was named after the city that produced it before the war and the Lenin was named after the great leader that popped out of the great war against France 20 years ago before. Currently in the current war against France I have been popping out a great leader once a turn ( this is a HUGE war ) and rush building Battleships .. I have few other improvements to build.. and Im getting harassed far to much by AEGIS cruisers :)

I also took to naming my transports after their targets. Miami or Bust, and Buffalo Soldier were the two that went after the southern American oil reserve. Sadly enough the units from the Windy City and Boston Bound were able to destroy the northern oil reserves but not hold them :(
