I've been playing this game for over 300+ turns alreay. It's the 19th century and I am planning to take over the Netherlands. Before I declared war on them, I checked with my foreign advisor to see if I have any treaties with them. Nothing but a peace treaty. The next turn, I declared war on them. Now most of the strong civilizations do not trust me. Because I broke the peace treaty? I'm wondering when they will forgive me.

And the turn, Egypt asks me to declare war against the Ottomans. I asked 37 GPT in return. But when the deal was done, I didn't get my GPT! What is that? A ripoff! Now I declared war on the Ottomans for nothing.

You might have broken a treaty with another civ you were trading with that was using the netherlands infrastructure (roads, harbors, et al) to trade with you. When you go to war with the netherlands, those ways of access are cut off, and you interupt any trade agreement you may have with a civ using that infrastructure.

Oh ok, I see.

Another thing just happened. I had a GPT agreement with Greece, then the Persains destoreyd Greece. Now no one wants a mutual protection pact with me because of that...Weird game.

Here's an effective way to not have a rep hit.

  • go to the civ you desire to declare war on, in diplomacy
  • propose a deal
  • at the bottom, press "active treaties"
  • there shall be "peace treaties", click on that, and then exit diplomacy

what turner said, plus did you have any of your units in their territory? if so, it's considered much like a sneak attack/break of ROP. even a galley somewhere in their territorial waters.

wow i never knew there was this button

yes my army was beside their city, then i declare war on them

There's your problem - you can't "honorably" declare war with your units inside their borders. It's considered the same as ROP rape and trashes your reputation.

Why d'you want an mpp with anyone in the first place? It's a good way to get the entire world at war with you.

That's because your trade deal with Greece was broken. It was origanally meant to prevent an exploit where you could get hundreds of gpt out of a civ's last city.
