Hey all,
this may seem like a real stupid question, but I have questions about the land.

I currently just irrigate everything including plains, grasslands, and deserts.. i change tundra and forests to grasslands and then irrigate them. Is this the proper way to go? I mean, should I leave some forests behind? or should I mine the grasslands instead? i mine the hills and mountains but thats about it. Is there any way to change the tundra and desert squares?

Anyways, thanks for the help guys.

if you are new just let the workers do the work for you, they usually know what they are doing. If you irrigate everything be prepared for some lousy producing cities. Mine everything that does not already produce sheilds.

ok first i think it is impossible to change tundra into grassland, you can cut forest and reveal a grassland.

1.- into despotism i suggest to road/mine shielded grassland because irrigation on that tile give nothing more but a mine give 2 shiled unsteed of 1.

2.- irrigate/road cow and wheat even in despotism it will give you extra food.

3.- road some forest into despotism, if you have extra food then you can put citizen on forest to get more production.

4.- Later on when you reach a new governement( monarchy or republic), road and irrigate non-shilded grassland and road/mine hills, this will give you lots of food and shield.

5.- You have to do some micromanagement when a city reach maximum size, here an exemple.

A city reach size 6 and cannot grow anymore without aqueduc and you want to built this aquaeduc. Look into city display you will see that you have like 4 extra food, take out a citizen from a low shield productive tile and put him on a mined hills, now you have more shield output and 2 extra food. Do that until you have no more extra food ( without starving for sure). You will be able to built aqueduc faster and once it is built dont forget to go back to a high food production unsteed of high shield production. I hope my bad english is understandable, my advice is good.
