Large map crashes

I like playing the large maps with alot of civs on them, but on my old computer the game would crash eventually. My question is what causes the crash? Is it the video card, the ram, processor, or something else? I am planning on getting a new computer (laptop) and I want something that will be able to handle the games but isn't overkill for what I need.

please post the dxdiag results file of that comp.
the answer is it depends - with modern graphics cards though any should work and the bottleneck usually is RAM
