Late game warfare blows...

Just use aircraft carriers with fighters and put them on interception
Olso get some atomic bombs and troll the AI by nuking the citie with all the aircraft so they all lose them haha

I agree somewhat. Late game warfare may be fun on lower difficulties where you're rolling over enemy archers with your modern armor/mech infantry armies. But the fun diminishes quickly as the difficulty increases.

I'm currently playing Earth 18 civs map as England with Noble difficulty. The way Monty's trebuchets turn my modern armor stack into an easy kill for his 30-40 riflemen is just ridiculous. Alright, Monty has 20+ trebuchets in the stack and my stack has 10-15 modern armor units. But still - it's trebs/rifles vs modern armor!

China is even worse. Qin has bigger stacks than Monty, but his units are technologically much more advanced as well.

I find that I don't like late game warfare either, but not for the reasons you cite.

I find that technology moves much too quickly that late in the game to use effectively. By the time I've built an infantry, moved him across the continent (or ocean) to the enemy, I've got the tech for mechanized infantry (and so does the enemy). The same goes for tanks/modern armor, fighter/bomber etc.

I just wish I could slow down everyone's rate of scientific advance to give us all some time to actually *use* it before it becomes obsolete.

because I find it too tiresome to always manually send them with escorts...

And this is why troops turn instantly into ships now when entering water, which is actually a pain most times than not. I suspect Civ VI will have troops turn into ships with a full battle escort and carriers laden with bombers due to whines like this.

Just learn to build escorts for them and don`t be so lazy.

Indeed they can. But 30 trebuchets can soften up even advanced units so they would be an easy kill for 30 riflemen.
