Leader Portraits

Because they are taken from real historical portraits, I think.

But, 4Ex, Xerxes shows what looks like a medieval Persian leader when in fact he was ancient, Joan of Arc, Alexander, and Luois XIV's portraits are the same, and Frederick the Great's portrait really shows Frederick II of the HRE.

That does seem strange.

Joan of Arc, Alexander, and Luois XIV's portraits are the same

Joan is taken from some vitrage, Louis seems all right to me (What do you find wrong with him?), don't remember Alex.

It's been a little while since I've played Civ II, so by all means take anything I say with a pinch of salt, but the likely explanation for the mix-up between the Fredericks is surely simply human error in confusing Fredrick II of Prussia with the aforementioned Fredrick II of the HRE.

As for Xerxes, maybe it's a medieval interpretation? Ancient figures were often depicted in what was at the time 'modern' or fashionable garb for reasons of artistic licence.

Yeah, but this is MicroProse. There's no excuse for a cock-up from them.

...And the Louis-Jean-Alex only happens in MGE, I believe. I can provide the corrected .DLL if anyone's interested.
