I'm experiencing huge slowdowns whenever rival leaders contact me during a new turn. To be precise, their leaderhead windows take enormous amounts of time to load. I finish a turn, hear the corresponding music of a leader's nation and wait some minutes for him (or her) to actually appear (and then a couple of minutes more for leaderhead animation to "unfreeze" and the actual dialog to appear beneath it). It is interesting to note that when I contact a leader myself it is nowhere that slow.
Now, that seems like a real bottleneck for CIV performance. Does anyone know what exactly happens during that leaderhead window loading process? What is there that takes so long to perform? Is it leaderhead 3D animation that takes that long to load, of is it some complex AI calculations? Can it be optimized by tweaking some options?
My CPU is rather old (Athlon 3000+), but even lategame turns with 9 civs take less time to finish than any reqest, offer of demand from any of their leaders.
