Leaders

Well, you know, even with 16 civs, you are likely not to get a GL after conquering the world. Just in case it makes you feel better, A succesion game in a standard world ended with no leaders. The victory condition was conquest: A whole map conquered and zero leaders

I'm not sure what I'm doing right, but I always get lots 15+ of GLs. I normaly play Monarch all random. I am a warmonger though and constantly at war because I like GLs. Last night was the wierdest, I got 3 GLs in 1 turn taking the Chinese city of Tsinatigo(SP). Luckily I just got Mass Production last turn, so I was able to rush 2 Battleships and 1 factory. I use my GL as soon as I can, since you cannot get 1 while you have another.

I think you've explained exactly what you are doing right: you're a warmonger and constantly at war. No GL has ever emerged peacefully:).

I'm normally pretty peaceful, so if I play a non-militaristic civ, I don't end up with many elites. I've had several games without a GL at all, and many in which my first GL didn't appear until Modern Armor.

To clarify the point he's talking about Civilization 3 World ONLY

Sometimes I wonder what is Firaxis concept of a Leader :crazyeye:

Well, I was, but it's a reality too. As far as real world 'leaders', how many can you name (GREAT leaders, that is) that were not involved in war? The only I can come up with are Jesus and Ghandi, maybe Confucious. OTOH, almost every truly great leader in history has been military: Napoleon, Caesar, Alexander, Ghengis Khan, etc.

I do wish I could come up with an idea for Great Leaders for people (like me) who generally like to play peacefully. A 'Great Scientist' emerging (Newton, Einstein, Galileo, etc.) for example. However, I can't come up with an idea of what, in the game, a player would have to do to get a chance for one. Should he get a 1/12 chance every time he is the first to research a technology?
