Least Favourite Unit to Play with?

I don't usually care for the musketman either. Early muskets were worse than bows in most conditions (phsychological effects aside) so if it hadn't been for the fact that you needed to have them to improve them (in both RL and civ) I'd prefer to never let them see the light of day.

I agree with you on that. The animation for the musketman dying is pretty lame, but I always get a good laugh out of it. Looks like he's landing flat on his rear hiney.

Since guns can penetrate armour, even those cluster shooting arquebusses (arquebi??) it pretty much makes it a great defending unit. Holed up behind town walls shooting at oncoming invaders with cannons and guns while the soldiers idiotically practice their drill in the battlefield (The most idiotic part of military history) it practically makes them complete beasts. Plus, the arquebus has considerable punch to it, it can shoot a candle and split a 2 inch thick block of wood in half.

I would say that given the era, I would much rather have the gun to shoot at the knights then a 6 or 8 foot long pole.

The Tommie-cooker :puke: and the lame excuse for a panzer. Why not use PROPER tanks such as the "Tridtsattjetwerka" (T-34) and Pz V respectively?

PS. How do you change the Civilopaedia entries so that different graphics are enabled? Changing the icon does little...

PPS. Why bother with sound?

In terms of gameplay, the Chasqui Scout, honestly just never found them all that useful. One of the few UU's I've found it hard to trigger a GA with since their attack power is so pathetic compared to Medieval units. I'd rather avoid ancient GA's if at all possible even though Chasqui's frequently force this. :(

For just plain ungodly strange I'd have to say musketmen, good lord it looks like some guy in a tin foil hat staring at the sky through a telescope, always wondered just what the heck they were looking at.

I usually play with no sound, but after reading this post I turned it on last night to hear the issue.

the carravel sounds like my 4 year old throwing her box of legos down the stairs.

I really hate the sound Chasqui scouts make. Jaguar Warriors in C3C are fairly useless, what with the upped cost. I fixed them by allowing them to enslave units, though. It works well enough, considering that Jaguar Warriors can only really fight (and thus enslave) barbarians.

I dislike the sound, and animation of the ancient cavalry, I hate it so much that I dont WANT to build that stupid wonder to produce them

I dislike the modern cavalry too, I dislike the horse trash talk sound (hehe, that covers it perfectly), and I just dislike that I HAVE to get them to have decent attackers...

and I don't turn of the sound, since only these 2 have sounds I dislike. I won't let the ''good'' suffer because of the ''bad''

I find the AC to definitely have a weird attack looks like the horse is doing the fighting, or trying to mate with the enemy. The sound fx sounds like mating, to go along with the animation. Another interestingly bad sound fx is the MDI grunting. The 3 man chariot sounds like a girly-man.

i hate the indians elephants...it sounds like you are hurting the elephant in an odd...risque way... my buddies at college always make fun of me for the sound they make

You should try AC on AC action. One time I captured the statue from the AI and we both had them. Fighting each other is even worse!

the Knights sound like a high pitch whup noise.

All the ships are too loud. Most of the UUs are as well.

The Javilin thrower is really loud and make a weird attack noise, sounds like an amusement park ride that needs lubrication.

Yes, the musketman falls on his butt.

I don't play with sound on, but for graphics, I vote AC. The horse seems rather poorly proportioned; essentially the body is too short. Breakaway's additions do seem to have a slightly different graphical style to Firaxis's originals.

Guerilla, i hate that animation, stop stabbing tanks with your bayonet!!!
