I was going over my games to remeber who betrayed me ... and I can't think of any because I betrayed them first! They never got a chance...

Kind of like when they were going to give von Ribbentrop a present in the form of all the treaties he had negotiated ... but Nazi Germany had broken every single one of them!

i would have to say the germans, they always try to sneak attack me!!! in every game i played russians they were next to me, and i couldn't trust them.. maybe that goes with all militaristic civs???

I voted for Aztecs because every game I play they are in, they always piss everyone off and are the first ones eliminated= my foreign advisor told me never to trust them. HOWEVER, the biggest deception I ever faced was when the Japanese, who I had a good trading relationship with, and who were on "Gracious" terms with me, suddenly landed armies near several of my cities. I asked them to get out, and they declared war on me. Boy it made me angry. I have never had a problem with the Zulus, but the Germans and Egyptians are also beligerent. Persia seems most trustworthy, they are always a game-long ally for me.

hmmm, from this pattern, it seems that all militaristic civs are not to be trusted.... The Aztecs, Germans, and Zulus seem to be at the top of the list and all are militaristic. Plus the Japanese

I voted Germans, they will backstab me at least 3 times an era, when im not playing them. They dont know when to stop. I dont really think the zulus or the aztecs are much of a bother, the GOTM this month was a prime example. Though the aztecs did nearly get me in the beginning. I later disposed of them properly. The germans are real pains, in the editor they have the most aggressive AI of all. If they are near you, watch your borders. Ive noticed they are real fans of horse mounted units, especially during their frequent sneak attacks. They are not to be trusted, ever. Just hope they are on a different continent.

I voted for the english because they are the only civ to have ever declared war from polite to me. I think though that it may have been cuz whenever they tried to make a city on my continent in the early land grab, i started a war then razed that city. Years later in the industrial age, they raped me with an army I wasn't prepared for because they were the last civ and were polite. I abandoned that game shortly after. :(

I think the zulus are pretty agressive usually but I've never had a problem with them as they always start out in the worst possible area of the map when I play them, so their growth is severely stagnated.

In the game I'm playing right now, the Germans are my biggest problem, but I'm about to betray them because they are my only competition on the histograph. Soon they will have their shores invaded with hundreds of tanks and battleships! Best part is I have MPPs with everyone else, and they are all gracious so the mighty Germans are about to get their asses handed to them in the first war in the history of our world... year 1906AD heh. :goodjob:

I only need four letters to answer this question:

Z - U - L - U

Yes. Shaka seems to find satisfaction in destroying life. He and his fanatical minions are a parasite to the Civ III world. If Firaxis had truly intended to make a civ who you know you could never trust, well... MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Indeed, they did well in creating an evil, backstabbing enemy. The Zulu and the Germans (with Aztecs and Japanese trailing just behind at equal third) are all a problem which needs to be solved fast (ooh, I get so much satisfaction winning my victories, seeing these four clowns beaten into a bloody pulp).

Ah well. I learnt the lesson and am stronger and wiser from it. I tend to wipe them out ASAP (usually my Immortals are sufficient to the task:D ). The French and Egyptians are always happy to do their part in exterminating every last impi.

Here impi impi impi... :die!:

In my experience, no civ can be trusted. In one game, I was allied to the English and made war on the Greeks. I conquered about 10 Greek cities and forced them to sign a humiliating peace. On the next turn, the previously friendly forces of Elizabeth Tudor attacked me amongst my newly acquired Greek cities. So I spent the next hundred or so years taking English cities, with the help of my new allies, the Chinese. When I finally made peace with the English, leaving them with only their capital, Warwick, the ungrateful Chinese allied with the Germans and made war on me. I could see that I wasn't going to hold on to my hard won English cities, so I abandoned the game. When I win a war, I want to consolidate, but the AIs never let me. It doesn't matter who I pick as my opponents, be they the Russians, Zulus, Romans, or the ones above, they always randomly make war on me, no matter how honest I am. But whoever said the civs should play to my rules! :D

Yep, its difficult to consolidate. One of the many challenges of the game. If the AI were all so nice and polite, and let you consolidate your gains, you'd become too powerful and it would no longer be a challenge. You need to build up a HUGE defence force and spread it out into the new lands in order to be able to consolidate. Even if the enemy is on another continent, they'd always be happy to bring you under their colonial power.

Zulu
I never trust them , and they always have a powerful army it is amazing because if you notice they never have any money to support it . One thing I have to acknowledge is that when the Zulu goes to war , oh boy , they GO to war and their enemy usually gets beat up.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with that lol, just think of their war packed history. Trusting them can be dangerous I warn you now! Hence their greeting saying on numerous occasions: "What can Persia do for your backward civilization?"
Argh it makes me so angry when civs say that to you who are about 10 times weaker than you! Respect is all I ask for!:egypt:

Persia might not be overly aggressive throughout an entire game. However, I have on a couple of occasions experienced that Persia have declared war on me, and sent lots and lots of their immortal troops against me at the worst possible time - while I have been busy on other fronts.
There´s several other civs that have anoyed me, but Persia has been the one that did so in the most terrible way, as I actually quit a really good map because I was unable to deal with their invasion.

Those dang Persians!!! I hate them sooooo much. Everytime I've had them anywhere near me, they stab me in the back. . .everytime. :(

Me, I'll never trust anyone who can reload/save(even if he doesn't use it). And most backstabbing(at least meanest) has been committed by me.

I'm sure there's an opening in there for a joke about playing with yourself, but I'll leave that well alone...

I've always had problems with the Germans, unless I was more powerful. They've always broken treaties when I'm weaker, but tend to not mess with me when they know I can annihilate them.

On the other hand, in my current game; I'm having problems with the persians. This is probably because I have a ton of units stacked at a choke point. This choke point is on a mountain with a fortress, and I'm sure it is angering them.

Once I get my trusty samurai warriors, I'll be taking care of that little problem though.

I second that. You can go a long way with skilled diplomacy and making concessions, but as soon as you top the historograph 5000 years of peaceful co-operation fly out of the window.

I guess you just have to make sure you hit them first and hard :D

Zulus. I seek them out the first chance I get. (on all of the Civ games, I, II, and III). Russians and Germans would probably be 2nd and 3rd, but they're not as bad.
