Left 4 Dead

1. watched the introduction movie

Helps in knowing how to play the game about as much as the Battlefield 2 or TIE Fighter intros do. All are brilliant films, but the only real way to learn the game is to actually play the game.

2. have the helpful pop-up text

Is very handy :goodjob:

3. have friends who won't kill you for being dumb and will in fact even give you pointers.

But if you don't have any friends with Left 4 Dead, then single-player is a good way to get started and learn the basics, right? Then you can quite happily jump into multiplayer games with the knowledge that you're not a complete eejit.

:)

That's why you

1. watched the introduction movie
2. have the helpful pop-up text
3. have friends who won't kill you for being dumb and will in fact even give you pointers.

Even so, it's still best to do some singleplayer first, especially if you can't get any friends on for a mulitplayer game.

But Kan, the Valve team specifically put introduction movie there to instruct you on the game! D:

Traditional in-game training mechanics didn't make sense for Left 4 Dead, because they would take away from the sense that players had been immediately dropped into a very real, very dire zombie apocalypse. We didn't want a slow ramp-up in gameplay to take away from that tension. As a result, we decided that it would make sense to begin the game experience with a non-interactive introductory movie that could get players revved up and subtly cue them to important gameplay mechanics such as "light disturbs the witch" and "car alarms attract the horde."

I dunno, it worked for me.

:)

Yes. :p

 Quite true. It did also teach me to keep shooting those dead-folk.

Don't get me wrong, Lightfang, playing the game on multiplayer is the only way to play for me, and it's the only way you're going to get the best out of the game. My only point was that single-player does serve a purpose, and that is for new players to learn the basics before throwing themselves into random servers.

And speaking of which, I hope to see you again online soon. You seem to be quite delighted with charging ahead, which I love :D

I know, I just wanted to be a polemist. And anyway, I just charged into multiplayer without knowing what I was doing, 'cause I'm that awesome. :p

I was delighted with being macho man because you guys were playing on advanced, and I usually play campaign on expert, so I felt sufficiently good.

But man, for the love of God (this is not directed at you in particular, just at the general L4D population)

1. If I'm crouching there shooting at something, don't run in front of me and make me shoot you. I don't like doing it, and I don't think you like getting shot.
2. Crouch if you're in the front so those of us in the back can shoot over you. And don't randomly stand up either, tell us or wait for the zombies to be eliminated.
3. If I've just been vomited on by a Boomer, don't dance in front of me. I can't really see where you are and I'm shooting semi-randomly, so don't make me hold back against the horde around me because I'm afraid of hitting you.
4. Get a microphone and talk, it's tons more fun that way.
5. Close the doors behind you, it slows zombies down.

bloody hell, my latest game of left 4 dead was interesting

It turned into a Versus game despite being Death Toll and for some reason we spent five minutes trying to get a safe room door open that refused to comply.

To be fair, I blame Kan

I have to say, i'll be getting it for the weekend.

one thing though, I think i did got a lot of experience for left4dead by having this passtime in counterstrike with two buddies to play against 20 expert bots with only knifes. Teamkill was of course on :D

and I played the demo, and that turned out well.

one thing though

WITCHES OUGHT TO DIE

I has one. Out of interest do folk have it set to 'push to talk' or 'open mike' for their games?

Push to talk. That's the only acceptable way to have it on. Nobody wants to hear you sneezing or telling your mom that you can't eat dinner 'cause you're in the middle of No Mercy.

They made it for 360? My god why.....

If he means 1 PM eastern (as he is Belgian so 8 PM EST would be very early in the morning for him) that would work better for me (I have to deal with an infected cut first).

EDIT: @Lightfang (and everyone): If you have just been vomited on, DO NOT SHOOT if your friends are near you, use melee until you can see very well.

This game looks fun....but not fifty dollars worth of fun.....

It is on sale for $37.49 until January 2nd. You seem to be extremely picky (not that I blame you) but I think you will like it and I'd gladly play some games with you to get you started.
