Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone has compiled a list of all the various legacy options you can choose from at age transition. I have scoured the internet with no luck.

I know you can see the leader specific legend unlocks by looking at the progress section, but I would like to see a list of all the options, not just those.

The game is telling you the effects of unlockable Legacy bonuses in Age Progress tab. (Golden Trophies). By hovering your pointer over the circular icons with a head down the screen, we can see those bonuses.

They follow a simple formula:
  • No milestone reached: Dark Age policy. Consume ALL your points.
  • 1st milestone: Gain 1 point of that path. Unlocks the Attribute Point, costing 1 point of the related path.
  • 2nd milestone: Gain 2 points of that path. Unlocks a unique effect, costing 2 points of the related paths.
  • Last milestone: Gain 3 points of that path. Unlocks a Golden Age effect, costing 2 points of the related paths. Only one of the Golden Age effects can be picked.

Here are the Legacies in the Exploration Age:

Culture:
  • Cultural Dark Age (all points): Missionaries have +1 charge and +1 movement, but -3 Happiness in all Settlements once you have founded a religion, doubled if the Settlement does not follow your religion.
  • Cultural Attribut Point (1 point): Gain 1 Cultural Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Diplomatic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Diplomatic Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Wondrous Heritage (2 points): Wonders you control get +1 Culture and +1 Happiness.
  • Wonders of the Ancient World Golden Age (2 points): Amphitheaters becomes Golden Age Amphitheaters (They retain their base yields, adjacency bonuses, and effects in the next age).
Military:
  • Militaristic Dark Age (all points): Gain 3 fully packed cavalry armies with siege, BUT lose all your existing armies and all of your settlements except your capital.
  • Expansionist Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Expansionist Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Militaristic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Militaristic Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Fealty (2 points): +2 Settlement Limit.
  • Pax Imperatoria Golden Age (2 points): Gain an Infantry unit in every settlement you conquered last age. Total Units: X.
Science:
  • Scientific Dark Age (all points): Gain a random Technology boost every 5 Turns (online Speed?) BUT -50% Science.
  • Scientific Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Scientific Attribute Point (max: 2)
  • Collector of Knowledge (2 points): +1 Science for every Codex in Antiquity (+X).
  • Great Library Golden Age (2 points): Academies become Golden Age Academies (They retain their base yields, adjacency bonuses, and effects in the next age).
Economic:
  • Economic Dark Age (all points): Naval Commanders gain a charge to create a new Settlement for every 2 Levels earned, BUT Settlers cost 100% more.
  • Economic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Economic Attribute Point (max: 2)
  • Master Caravaneer: +5 Gold for every Trade Route in Antiquity (+X).
  • Silk Roads Golden Age: All of your cities from the previous age remain cities.

Here for the Modern Age:

Culture:
  • Cultural Dark Age (all points): Explorers get +1 Movement speed and unearth Artifacts 50% faster, BUT -50% Influence.
  • Cultural Attribut Point (1 point): Gain 1 Cultural Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Diplomatic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Diplomatic Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Deep Roots (2 points): +2 Culture per Relic in previous Age.
  • Toshakhana Golden Age (2 points): Keep your Religious Founder Beliefs.
Economic:
  • Economic Dark Age (all points): +100% Production and Gold towards Rail Stations and Ports, and +1 resource slot in all Settlements, BUT -25% Culture.
  • Economic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Economic Attribute Point (max: 2)
  • Tap the Source (2 points): +2 Gold per turn per unique Resource you have.
  • Treasure Fleet Golden Age: All of your cities from the previous age remain cities. In addition, cities in distant lands gain 2 population.
Military:
  • Militaristic Dark Age (all points): Gain 2 free Levels on all Commanders and new Commanders start with 2 additional Levels, BUT all military units cost 25% more.
  • Expansionist Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Expansionist Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Militaristic Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Militaristic Attribute Point (max: 2).
  • Land of Opportunity (2 points): +10 Production in Distant Lands.
  • Non Sufficit Orbis Golden Age (2 points): Gain an Infantry unit and a Ranged unit in all of your Distant Lands settlement.
Science:
  • Scientific Dark Age (all points): Flight is unlocked with Combustion, BUT +50% cost to all airplanes.
  • Scientific Attribute Point (1 point): Gain 1 Scientific Attribute Point (max: 2)
  • Lyceums (2 points): +3 Science per turn for each Quarter.
  • Enlightenment Golden Age (2 points): Universities become Golden Age Universities (They retain their base yields, adjacency bonuses, and effects in the next age).

Some are better than others. Some I do not understand the conception. I could speak a lot about it.

The unlockable legacies from Leaders are standardized and linked to their affinity. Amina is Economic & Militaristic, Ashoka (World Renouncer) is Diplomatic & Expansionist, while Catherine the Great is Cultural and Scientific.

Legacies:
  • Cultural: +15% Culture, -10% Science
  • Diplomatic: +15% Influence, -2 Combat Strength for Naval / Air units.
  • Economic: +15% Gold, -10% Food
  • Expansionist: +15% Food, -10% Gold
  • Militaristic: +3 Combat Strength towards Naval / Air Units, -10% Influence
  • Scientific: +15% Science, -10% Culture.
Naval units for Exploration, Air units for Modern.

That’s extremely helpful, thank you.

Playing as Augustus/Rome I received two options in my current game that I had never seen before, called Inward Perfection and Imperial Ambition. I cannot figure out how I unlocked these or why they suddenly appeared. I cannot find any reference to them anywhere.

I wish I had taken a screenshot.

These names are not the same as the ones I've seen for the Legacy Options unlocked by the Legend system, which are more like "<Leader name> <Age> Legend <Attribute>":
View attachment 721792

However I've got once another Legacy option, that came from my choice in the Religion Crisis in Exploration age:
View attachment 721794
View attachment 721795
Or maybe another Event that's given a Legacy Option...

I bet that’s it! I had just experienced a very interesting crisis that my Empire was able to withstand very well. That’s so fun if that’s the case. I wonder how many there are?

I am not sure whether the game intends to tell you this anywhere, but each crisis seems to have hidden goals which unlock legacy card options. From the game files:

./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_INWARD_PERFECTION" RequirementId="REQ_REVOLTS_CRISIS_ACTIVE"/>
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_INWARD_PERFECTION" RequirementId="REQ_PLAYER_HAS_NO_UNHAPPY_SETTLEMENTS"/>
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_INWARD_PERFECTION" RequirementId="REQ_PLAYER_HAS_LESS_THAN_5_SETTLEMENTS"/>
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_INWARD_PERFECTION" RequirementId="REQ_AGE_IS_ENDING"/>

Which I would interpret as less than 5 settlements and none of them unhappy at the end of an age while the revolts crisis is active.

and:
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_IMPERIAL_AMBITION" RequirementId="REQ_REVOLTS_CRISIS_ACTIVE"/>
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_IMPERIAL_AMBITION" RequirementId="REQ_PLAYER_HAS_NO_UNHAPPY_SETTLEMENTS"/>
./unlocks.xml: <Row RequirementSetId="REQSET_REVOLTS_IMPERIAL_AMBITION" RequirementId="REQ_PLAYER_HAS_4_CONQUERED_SETTLEMENTS"/>

Which I would say means having 4 conquered settlements and no unhappy settlements any time during the revolts crisis.

There seem to be 2-3 for each crisis

That’s amazing, but I had a lot more than 4 settlements when I triggered Inward Perfection and Imperial Ambition. I wonder if Inward Perfection only counted settlements I founded, as it is possible I only founded four and captured the rest.

That would explain why sometiems I have them, sometimes not, always assumed it was automatic for each crisis, which was I thought was a bonus, but other times, not so much.

Feel like there should be more visiblity in these.

From the way it is intended, you should not have gotten it. But it might be bugged, who knows? As far as I can tell, it is the only requirement of type "less than x settlements", so we don't have evidence that it is working in other places.

Definitely. I got Westphalian Sovereignty once (+3 War support in all wars declared against you) but it was with Friedrich, so I though it was somehow connected to him. I did not make the connection to the crisis until now. There are localizations of all these descriptions, so it seems to have been planned to show these somewhere, but I have no idea where it would be shown.

There are attribute nodes in Science and Culture that say get +1 of (Yeild) in every settlement maybe it says Cities or Towns) or get +2 of (Yield) if you only have 3 settlements.

Those are the only other things I can think of that have a settlement limit imposed.

You’re a hero for figuring all that out. I’m very grateful. It was driving me insane not knowing.

I no longer uncheck Crisis in the game settings, just to discover these new legacies.

I found three:

Spoiler Just a proof :
Minister the Sick.png
Westphallian Sovereignty.png
Religious Tolerance.png

Minister the Sick (2 cultural points, Exploration): Gain the Piety Civic for free and +50% Production towards Temples.
Requirements (thanks to @uppi): Having a “Plague” crisis, Have at least 4 Altars.

Westphalian Sovereignty (2 militaristic points, Modern): +3 War Support in all wars declared against you.
Requirements: Having a "Religious" crisis (?), Have a war declared against you.

Religious Tolerance (2 cultural points, Modern): +4 Happiness in Settlements not following your Religion.
Requirements: Having a "Religious" crisis, Have at least 3 different Religions in your Settlements.

During the "Religious" crisis (Sacred and Profane) you can either pick: "All faiths must be accepted" (AFMBA) or "Unity is possible only under one dogma" (UIPOUOD). Both of them can unlock the "Religious Tolerance" Legacy in the Modern Age. The choice only changes the first Crisis Policy (subsequent Crisis policies are identical for either choice):
  • Religious Tolerance policy (AFMBA): +8 Happiness in settlements that do not follow your religion. -2 Charges on new Missionaries.
  • Religious Zeal policy (UIPOUOD): -8 Happiness in settlements that do not follow your religion. +2 Charges on new Missionaries.
Contrary to Evangelism policy, the additional Charges to Missionaries are not dynamic. Even if you pick AFMBA, unhappy settlements not following your religion can still go into Revolt. I do not know if Westphalian Sovereignty is linked to the Religious crisis, or just any crisis.

I was unable to have 6 infected Settlements at the same time to unlock the "Labor Shortage" legacy. It seems that the Plague can spread from settlement to settlement, but I haven't been able to figure out how. Perhaps it spread from contiguous Quarters from different settlement for one to infect the other?

Yeah, I got "Minister the seek" once and religious play was quite fun.

Is it me or few golden age are really worth it compaired to most 2 cost legacies?... For example:
  • Wondrous Heritage (2 points): Wonders you control get +1 Culture and +1 Happiness.
  • Wonders of the Ancient World Golden Age (2 points): Amphitheaters becomes Golden Age Amphitheaters (They retain their base yields, adjacency bonuses, and effects in the next age).
You will have at most 2, maybe 3 amphitheaters by the end of antiquity. But if you have the golden age, that means you have 8 wonders... So choosing wondruous heritage get you nearly as much culture (not linked to a building, that can therefore be overbuilt) and even happiness. So the golden age does not give you that much benefit, especially since exploration age give you more yields that an amphitheatre... Same thing for science legacies...

Same for the military path:
  • Fealty (2 points): +2 Settlement Limit.
  • Pax Imperatoria Golden Age (2 points): Gain an Infantry unit in every settlement you conquered last age. Total Units: X.
Fealty if way better than some measly units... Not only most of your units carry over (provided enough commander, but still), but settlement points are invaluable in exploration age where you have to grab distant lands as soon as possible, and mainland conquests are worthless...

For economic, you can count at 200-250 gold per city you retain. Not cheap, but if you had enough trade routes it gets prety even...

For modern legacies it is roughly the same (except for the economic golden age, since 2 pops in the distant lands is rather good)... So I really can't see the appeal of golden ages...

If you have 3 amphitheaters with good adjacency bonuses (including those you get from those wonders), golden age legacy should be way ahead in the amount of culture. Whether it's worth it, totally depends on your style. I think if you plan your cities with this legacy in mind, you could get a lot from it.

Again, totally depends on the game. In two of my games I actually took a policy which reduces settlement cap by 2 in exchange for cheaper city states, because I really didn't need those additional settlement points. I don't think infantry units are useful either, but I could imagine cases where they are.

This is very cool. The crises need a bit of tweaking but they have potential to be very interesting gameplay opportunities.
Yes. I'm surprised they haven't advertised or promoted this a bit more, I had no idea these existed until this thread. As with so many parts of the game, there is a lot of unrealised potential in the legacy points - they could add a huge amount of variety to age transitions.

They also retain their side effects:
Amphitheaters: +10% Production toward Wonders.
Academies: Has 3 Codex slots.
Universities: +1 Science of Quarters

Academies do not get any slot in the following era, thus having no real side effects. In both the Amphitheater and Academy, it is still a third building available. It would have been better if they were made Ageless and buildable, but even currently, they can give more yields than their 2nd milestone counterpart.

Meanwhile, how can Universities rivalise with Lyceums (+3 Science per turn for each Quarter)?
