I few times on this forum I've read about "legendary start" and "strategic balance", but can't find the settings when starting a new game. Are these mods only?

I feel like I should probably know but what exactly do "legendary start" and "strategic balance" mean?

You have to go in to advanced settings when you set up a game, they should be there
Found them under "resources", but it turns out they are not available on all map types. I was trying to set up a "Donut"-game (that sounded strange:lol:).

That's a point I been playing this game for quite a while now. What does legendary start do exactly, make everything super abundant, so no one lacks resources I presumed. I go strategic balance a lot myself its awfully painful to get to the modern age and find out you have no oil at all, and you have to go cap in hand to city states or AIs.

Legendary start makes a"legendary" amount of resources around your starting area. Strategic balance shoots for having every civ have at least some of most/every strategic resource, it attempts to achieve a balance between civs.

strategic start guarantees horses, iron, and oil in your starting area. nothing more.

Cool thanks guys.

So a Legendary Start gives more starting goodies equaly to both the player and the AI's?

It would be nice to have those options available for all maps so it would be selectable for random map settings as well. but I do enjoy a legendary start from time to time, even if it makes me pick one of the map types that it is available!

Yes to both - You might innitially be very pleased with your abundance of animals, wine and gold, then you might become very envious upon seeing what some of the opposition have!

I was going to give my example of that but didn't know if it would stand out from anyone else. I am glad to hear it probably happens often. I had a great start in a game, was happy, then found Moscow with 4 whales, 2 fish, 3 wines, marble, and various food stuffs. Atleast it gave me a first target haha... I need to take screenshots, I had no idea it was so fun to see other people's situations!

Ok, I am not a new player but I am obviously having a bit of a brain malfunction right now.

I usually play Emperor, Fractal, Large, Marathon with 14 AIs. I only tick promotion/policy saving and raging barbarians. I have not ever played with "abundant resources". Is there even an option like that? Because suddenly my maps are packed with resources. I am beginning to think I have changed a setting.

(1) Is there an "abundant resources" settings somewhere? If so, where because I can't find it? When I go into Setup and you get your Civ, Map Type, Difficulty etc you can click Advanced where you can set the number of AIs etc but there is nothing about resources.

(2) When I click on Map Type Fractal is no longer listed.

I am thinking there is something wrong. For a short while I got a message saying I could not connect to Steam and any saves I want to make in the Cloud would be lost or something. Anyway, my recent games are all in the Hall of Fame and I no longer get that message.

Anyone ideas of what I am getting wrong?

EDIT: version 1.0.1.511?

abundant resources is in the same dropdown as balance and legendary and the other.

Its in the advanced setup. But this option isn't on all map types. When it is, its one of the last dropdowns in the top section.
(This dropdown isn't on tiny island at all; and in ring that dropdown is locked to balance.)

Abundant resources doesn't actually increase number of tiles with resources. What it does instead is that all resources that would normally be 2 are now 3; those that would be 4 are now 6; etc. (50% boost)

Ja, I noticed now that you mention the map types that those options appear. Still a bit unsure why my Fractal maps seem to be so resource abundant.

I hate mods. The original game should be right the first time.

You forgot 2021: Jon Schafer is rehired as Team Project Manager.

Otherwise it sounds right. :)
