My memory isn't what it used to be; anybody remember the advisors council played by actors? (I think it was civ 2) Cheesy, but I miss those fellas..Anybody miss them? Also, Will Leonard Nimoy be doing his thing in 'Beyond the Sword' again?

Sid Meier will do the new quotes etc.

I miss them so much...

They add a human touch to the game which is nice after you've been moving units for 1 hour.

Hmmm....maybe, maybe not. I didn't really use them once the novelty wore off.

I do miss the wonder movies from Civilization II/Alpha Centauri. That was the human touch that I needed when in the computer lab in the basement of the Willard Bldg. at 11:00pm.

I'd rather have them put more money in development of AI (and other features), if it came right down to it.

Still...who doesn't forget, "Sire, the people -- they just can't help fallin' in love with you"?

Or the first time your (medieval) military advisor was actually happy with you, and you thought there was an error because he didn't show up in the frame at first.... 'till he walked in humming some tune and said, "No complaints, sire!"

I miss those guys too. They were in Civ3. When did an advisor become a big data table?

No they were in Civ2. And what you're all forgetting is that after ten games you never watched them, because you knew exactly what they were going to say.

Last summer I was spending a month at my mum's house (haven't lived there for about twelve years). And I found my old Civ 2 CD!

I installed and played and had a great time, and one of the things I was looking forward to were these advisors. It took about five minutes. They were boring me again! I still remember every word they say. It was like no time had passed.

So you miss them like you miss bygone summers. You've forgotten about all the rain.

"Let love and wine their rights maintain..." or something like that. ;)

I LOVED going to the Civ II Advisor council during Anarchy :P

and then the advisor next to him [i think economic] interrupted:

"would that we could wall up your gaping mouth egghead".

I played age2 for a bit, and I never got tired of them.
There was just a sense of satisfaction when the economic advisor said: "we are rich sire, rich rich RICH"

Their lines were classics that I'll never forget.

The Elvis impersonations were great too :) It's a shame that they've been dropped, although I agree that after the first couple of times you remember their lines, but that is exactly what makes it a classic.

I always loved how everybody hated the Entertainment guy, except for maybe the Diplomatic girl. He would always say something like "raise your luxury rate, make your people happy" and then the Science advisor would say "I disagree", and then either the Trade or Military guy would yell at him.

Once, I memorized every single line! :D (Including the ones when in anarchy - hard to make out, but it's possible.) I have/had the Civ2 galley sinking as my recycle bin sound effect, and the wolf howl as my window's closing effect. (My uncle has the same one). I also do miss the advisors...

"Let love and wine their rights maintain..." or something like that. ;)

"May love and wine their joys maintain...

NO COMPLAINTS, SIRE!

...And their united pleasures reign..."

It's apparently from a folk song called "Down Among the Dead Men."

Heh, the science advisor pretty much always loved me because of my typical tech crazy playing style. Military advisor didn't like me as much. "Would you defend our cities with haystacks, noble leader. Buld city walls, for instance. Other improvements later." The luxueries guy didn't usually like me that much either "When people are blue, the entertainment must be true."

Heh, maybe someone could mod them in using the old video files.

I thought it was "defend our cities with acts of haste, noble leader?" :)

So thats why ur avatar is the science guy :crazyeye: :crazyeye:

I also always got good report from the science advisor.

Thats why I was always excited when the trade advisor gave me good reviews and when the military advisor was doing well.

I loved it when the military advisor was begging me to start wars... lol

"This is you. This is a clue. Get a clue. Discover trade."
OMG such a classic.

I got out my Civ 2 CD and found some great quotes:

Military: "Our men need better weapons, lord! Let us put the scroll-heads to work on this worthy pursuit!"

Science: "That is for his excellency to decide, Visigoth!"

Trade: "Noble leader, there are matters other than this blunted spear-point to attend to."

Science: "All is well, excellency. I'm off to grease my abacus."

Trade: "You weak-minded eunuch!"

Military: "Give us better ships, general, or we'll be taking our shore leave in a life boat!"

Military: "You're lettin' our crack troops go to waste, general. Let's go bomb some heads, sir!"

Foreign: "Sir, I must report that we've lost the respect of the global community. Shall we betray them...? Or repair our reputation... then betray them?"

Happiness: "We'll be checkin' into the Heartbreak Hotel if we don't get them some entertainment soon, your majesty."

Trade: "If you want to take your advice from a blue-suede fool, sir, then go right ahead..."

Happiness: "When the people are blue, the entertainment... must be true..."
