ok, I was able to win on the second level. Forgot name?!? But, right now, Im playing the Reagent level. I only found 3 other Civs, and Im the waekest military-wise, Im technologicall deprived, and anyone could take me out easy if they wanted. I cant make any money, Im broke.....basically in a world of hurt. Can anyone enlighten me on some basic starting moves?? Like what to build, and how to build quicker...stuff like that. I'd arreciate it. THX

There is no ideal starting strategy. The game is too complicated for that. Read the articles in the War Academy for some good advice.

You will also get much better help from other players if you tell them what version of Civ you are playing (1.29, PTW or Conquests) and what level (Chieftain, Regent, etc.). And then post a screenshot of your game or, better yet, the entire game. A picture is worth a thousand words

Welcome to civfanatics

Sounds like you have the basics since you can beat the game on chieftain and warlord levels.

You probably need more roads to generate more gold. This will translate into better science rate. It will also allow you to buy more techs. More cities might help this also.

I spent many hours researching strategy on this web site to get good at this game. Each level harder is going to require more advanced techniques. Good luck

Because Cheiftain takes alot out of the game. I was reading that the full game comes out at regent level and above. Cheiftain can get boring after awhile. Plus, I must admit that I have slightly improved since this post. THX to helpers.
