Liberty, Equality, Fraternity :king:

PBEM Game.

It is 1800 (I think?). Europe is gripped by war. The French want to spread their liberty, by force of musket. An alliance of nations stand against her, including the British (who don't like European wars), Austians and the Prussians. Who will dominate Europe?

Looking to play the napoleonic scenario multiplayer, the one that is included with Civ3 Complete (and Conquests?)

It will be at Regent level, with some where between two, or four to six players.
(edited to list players, and put in turn order)
Prussia ----> GreyGamer
France ---> Soul_Warrior
Great Britain ---> Quarky
Austria ----> Blaze Injun

Russia (AI) ---
Ottoman (AI) --- AI are interspersed between the human players
Spain (AI) ---

Players email addresses
GreyGamer (greygamerpbem @ y!ahoo . co . uk )
Soul_Warrior (troykemp @ g!mail . c!om)
Quarky (gheywood @ g!mail . c!om)
Blaze Injun (darkalec13 @ m!sn . c!om)

(remove all spaces and exclamation marks)

Open to new and experience players, but it would be nice to get a balance so we will have to judge experience with agreeing on nations I think. This will be my first scenario, so others in that position are welcome too.

Hey,

If you don't mind putting up with me here. I'll take the Ottoman or Austria.

Blaze Injun

Be great to have you along. Not sure if you want to play with you or against you  :)

How does everyone feel about starting with four players?

I would suggest the following countries:

France: Soul Warrior

Britain: Quarky
Austria: Blaze Injun
Prussia: GreyGamer (or perhaps Russia?)

As much as being Britain feels like playing chicken with a train, someone has to do it, so I will take the bullet for the team :)

I would welcome comments on what we do with the other nations? Shall we allow a MPP and/or ROP (with Spain, Russia, or Sweden for example)?

One more thing. I have created a gmail account. I suggest that we all email our game passwords to this account. We can all open the inbox, but hopefully no one will rea the emails! This means that everyones password is available in the event of someone dropping out, but because the emails will be unread, we can be sure that they have not been compromised (well, we can at least tell if they have).

moi? a froggie?
wonderful idea :D

regarding the EMails, id suggest we "deposit" them with an impartial player?
i could PM some vets and ask (Whomp, BEF and more come to mind)

if not we can keep the mail thing.
id also suggest we subject our mail "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity - PBEM - Password for #playername#
that way there are no possible mistakes.

also disable the auto-open mail on clicking?
to avoid mistakes.

but we also trust you.... :scan:
if you give your word it will be ok.

come to think about it, arent we going to pass the save in a circular fashion?

France: Soul Warrior > Britain: Quarky > Austria: Blaze Injun > Prussia: GreyGamer > back to me?

Not sure on the turn order, or indeed if I can set it, but will take a look tonight, and go for that turn order if poss. I know that Blaze is in the USA and the rest of us are in Europe (I think?), but Blaze is pretty good so I don't expect any issues there. ;)

For the passwords, I was intended to give everyone the username and password for the account (so everyone would know if it was compromised, and it would be a mutual trust issue), but just as happy to send them to a PBEM vet. If anyone you PM wants to do it, sounds good to me.

Any rules/regulations anyone would like to add, or any comments about the ROP, MPP's?

Hey,

I like this scenario.

Soul warrior quote...blazing saddles? you can only play the ottomans then :D

I always play the Ottomans in this scenario. Austria is a new one for me. I can't wait to get started. :)

Quarky quote... I know that Blaze is in the USA and the rest of us are in Europe (I think?), but Blaze is pretty good so I don't expect any issues there. ;)

Well Quarky, you and Soul both know I hate the slow mode. :D

I like the MPP and ROP. Remember at this time in the world, nations were out for the best for themselves. Think the book "The Prince". Anything to stay in power.

I also like the 4-man game. Nice and neat.

Blaze Injun

OK. Had a go at starting this, and it doesn't like I can change the turn order, which is basically

Prussia
France
Great Britain
Austria
(with AI interspersed)

Not a big problem, but I will need to set a password for Prussia (Greygamer), and also then need to save on Greygamer's turn, pass him the file, and he will need to continue the game.

Have I got that correct? Is that a problem for anyone?

The Prince by Macavelli (sp?). Great book for the office, just like Sun Tzu's Art of War :)

If no one objects, I will get the game created and sent out today (which means sometimes over the next twelve hours). Of course most people will be at work/school etc at that time but you should get it soon.

Niccolò Machiavelli - wiki is your friend :D
machiavelli.gif

no probs with the save situation.
we are all :shifty: honest  men

BTW, my email is: troykemp @ gmail . com (just remove the blanks)

Superb.

Well, greygamer is up first, since I don't have your email address yet (I know you said it will be evening when you get on), I will email it when I get it.

Greygamer, if you can email it on to Soul Warrior (troykemp @ gmail . com)

I will edit the first post with the email addresses, turn order etc.

I'll get things started this later this evening at which point we will 'cry havoc! And let slip the dogs of war' or something.

Anyone read Clausewitz, perhaps relevant to warfare in this period.

i did. :mischief:
but ill have to keep my tactics (his really) to myself.

awaiting the save eagerly.
but ill start a similar solo game for myself prior to playing this.
i suggest we all do that (unless familiar with the scenario)

i should be able to play my turn tonight.

And so it begins.
First off apologies for the delay, I fell sick yesterday.

GPS Soul Warrior

I know that Quarky might think he is taking a bullet, but I feel like a hedgehog about to be squashed by a French steamroller. Perhaps I should have asked for Russia!

Still a bit of horse trading and a few MPP should at least ensure some mourners at the burial

the french offer amnesty to all who surrender.
we are merciful and cultured.
bow down before our might!

i have it and will send (to you quarky) in a couple o' hours.

* might i suggst you edit post 1 to refelect the real playing order?
i see you did.
maybe just colour code it for ease of sight?

*** when sending forward a save please state to whom you have sent it.
i.e. GPS Soul, Gps quarky, etc.
that way we can spot a problem easily.

***** just a finall edit.
please ignore my post count.
regarding PBEMs, this is my second one :D

The battle for Monarchy, Freedom, and Euope has begun.

Battle report for Jan(1) 1800:
British Man-o-war sunk by French Frigate in the English channel (near Boulogne)
French Frigate sunk in channel by British Man-o-War (north of Brest)
French Frigate sunk in channel by British Man-o-War (near Boulogne)
End of Report

His Majesty King George III has used his influence to secure a Military alliance with Spainish and Russian against Napoleon.

GPS ----> Blaze Injun

BTW, it is worth putting a report of casulties inflicted (and taken) since the other players don't see them.. That way they know what is happening where. It is sharing information with the enemy, but it is info they would have anyway (unless your troops go rogue!)
