which is nothing when compared to the french determination in searching for british vermin and their accomplices hiding in holes on the mainland.
our troops, who are everywhere, are equiped with personal shovels.

the french are happy to report the routing of the spaniard cavalry sent to TRY and relieve their former outposts.
4 regiments have been left for the vultures, with the remenants of 2 infantry brigades to watch over them.
also, Oviedo has succumbed to the french might.
on the Italian frontier, no news as of yet, the brits throw cows over the walls, and we retaliate with the by products of those very same cows.

1st Battle of Kiev. 24-25 December 1801
As snow fell on 24 December 1801, Russian Guard units held Kiev against vicious Austrian Hussar attacks. On Christmas day a Russian counterattack was repelled with heavy Russian losses.

The Prussian-Austrian Alliance is signed.
Ottoman horse have returned home across the Austrian-Ottoman border.

Didn't get to post after my turn last night but see events have progressed quickly since then.
To recap
Prussian navy blooded in the Gulf of Finland, Prussias new Baltic vessel was involved in battle with an un-named Russian frigate. The outcome is unclear but the surviving ship was said to be badly damaged.
Reports of early set backs from their Austrian allies have brought the movement of a large body of Prussian troops across the Russian border.
Foreign workers have been seen working on security projects in the Rhine region.

Hey,
I put this on civ assist II and it states that Culture Flip is turned off.
This kinda sux.
I never played this way solo before. The idea of taking cities and no fear of cultural flip.
Whats the use of the idea of Nationialism in this game if the population won't culture flip. These were heady times for nationial identity and independence.

Advance elements of the Prussian army have reached Minsk and deployed on the heights to the north of the city. At Vilnus the besieging army has fought off an attempted breakout by Russian guards inflicting heavy losses according to military sources.
The Prussian general staff have so far resisted demands for an assault on Vilnus, "We will not go to battle with one boot off" a spokesman for the war office told reporters. Elsewhere the Danzig has joined up with the Baltic after the victorious engagement against the Russian navy.

The Prussian High Command finally lost patience with its commander at Vilnus and relieved him of command for his failure to stop Russian Guard units reinforcing the Garrison there. His replacement Scharnhorst was the architect of the Prussian action against the cossacks and will have to decide what course to follow now, though it would seem Vilnus is unlikely to be taken without a lengthy siege. It is hoped that his successor will show the kind of initiative which led to the destruction of the large Cossack force that invaded Prussia in 1801 and allow the Prussian forces to match the successes of their Austrian brothers.
