Will we have a more comprehensive list this time? I hope to see living people included, and the following added:

Great "Prophets" (or Religious Leaders, at least) :

Martin Luther
John Paul II
Joseph Smith
Gordon B. Hinckley
Thomas Spencer Monson
Billy Sunday
Billy Graham
Pat Robertson (That may be up for debate though...)
(the last "Caliph" of the Muslim faith, who abdicated his throne in 1924)
Martin Luther King, Jr.

Great Entertainers:

Charlie Chaplain
George Gershwin
Aaron Copeland
Elvis Presley
Tennessee Ernie Ford
Red Sovine
John Lennon
Michael Jackson
Tim McGraw
Garth Brooks
Tomoe Shinohara
Satoshi Tajiri
Mel Blanc
Leann Rimes
Jennifer Lopez
Britney Spears
(many more contemporary pop artists, young and old alike)
Justin Bieber (That could be debatable, and he should only be creatable after the 2020 in-game year, don't you think?)
Miley Cyrus
Lindsey Lohan
Mary-Kate Olsen
Ashley Olsen
Lucas Cruikshank (About as debatable as Bieber...)

Great Engineers:

Louis Chevrolet
(Mr.) Packard
(Mr.) Studebaker
(Mr.) Toyoda
Lee Iacocca
(Founder of Intel)
Bill Gates
Sergey Brin
Raymond Kurzweil
Vernor Vinge
Mark Zuckerberg

Great Spies:

James Bond
Jason Bourne (I know they're fictional, but we don't know of too many recent real-world spies because their identities must be kept secret.)

Great Generals:

Norman Schwarzkopf
David Petraeus
Donald Rumsfeld
Robert Gates

Great Barbarians (Capturing them results in great rewards for your civilization) :

Attila
(Many more historical uncivilized leaders)
Kim Il-sung
Kim Jong-il
Saddam Hussein
Pol Pot
Osama bin Laden

Great Merchants:

Mr. Sears
Jeff Bezos
Mr. Nordstrom
Sam Walton
Michael Dell
Steve Jobs & Wozniak (could be engineers too)
Andrew Carnegie
Ray Kroc
John Jacob Astor
Cornelius Vanderbilt
J. Willard Marriott

And so much more...

But if there are already-existing lists of great people that are going to be in this upcoming game, please link them. Thanks.

Great Spies.. you can do better:

Richard Sorge (probably the most famous Soviet spy)
Rudolf Roessler (leader of Lucy Spy Ring)
Leopold Trepper (leader of the Red Orchestra)
Suzanne Spaak (an operative of Red Orchestra)
Radó Sándor (one of the Red Three)
Willi Lehmann (soviet agent in Nazi Germany)

Great Generals:

Norman Schwarzkopf
David Petraeus
Donald Rumsfeld
Robert Gates

Baaahahahahahahaah - you made my day - especially with Rumsfeld. Your perspective on what defines a great general is quite limited.

Yeah, you sort of lost me with:

Rumsfeld as a Great General (that's one of the lulziest things on the forums in a long time)
Kim Jong-il (and Il-sung), cause putting in current heads of state as barbarians is a great idea…
Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan apparently not needing the "maybe these people shouldn't be in-game" tag you put on a few
Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates as Great Engineers; they're obviously talking about traditional engineering, not social or business (if anything, they'd be scientists or merchants, but that's still a stretch)
Pat Robertson as a Great Prophet – See Rumsfeld

Also, I think a few of those on your list were in CIV: I think Gershwin was in, as are Vanderbilt and Carnagie (again, not sure, but I think I've seen them).

LOL what a silly list, besides, only great generals/scientists/artists/merchants, will be in Civ5, not spies or religious (liars) leaders and certainly never "great barbarians" which brings the question, if they are so great, why are they barbarians, completely poor choice of title, "great dictator" would be a better fit,
Moderator Action: *snip* don't troll here.

Now now, he may be on to something here. This could be the branch off they've needed to go BIG. Civilization: Scene It, Hollywood Edition. Where it takes all your favorite people who've made money selling the rest of us various piles, all smelling the same, of crap and bundle them into Civ format!!! Why stop at Bourne and Bond, The cast from Mission Impossible works (obviously Tom Cruise needs to be in the game, although a Tom Cruise Missle has a nice ring to it). And perhaps instead of Bieber and the other girls of pop, lets atleast go hair bands of the 80's, I personally want my Great General to be Alice Cooper. I don't know about you, but Cooper leading an army to my city gates would have me surrendering in an instant. Great Merchants I would want Sports Agents and Hedge Fund Managers. Both very adapt at getting money up front for nothing tangible in return. Now that is marketing! Well you can see where I'm going with this, and now I am going to go wash my own mouth out with soap.

I am left pondering why I can't be this creative with the real game...

You forgot to include Bush in the list.

With such a list, just forget about the cultural victory, egaonogenki, I don´t think that´s the best choice for you !

This is made all the more poignant by the fact that it looks like jchavel registered just to post this.

Welcome to the forums!

This thread hurts me...I hope it's intended to be comedy. Please say this is a joke.

Just...why...

That list is certainly of a neutral and global standpoint. Bieber... you sir should be executed.

Agreed.

so would those Biebers and Miley Cyrus have an extra ability? +2 to population in all cities via teenage pregnancies, -2 commerce to any town/village or I suppose trading post in V due to upkeep on welfare and food stamps.

Good observation. I did have a cultural victory in Civ 3 and it was a bit more underwhelming than winning the space race.

I suppose Zuckerberg and Gates would be toss-ups between scientists and merchants after all, because they have both pioneered and sold extensively.

Let's have a 1-on-1 multiplayer match when we both get this game and I promise I'll let you execute to your heart's desire if you win, alright? ;)

(But if I win, I think Bieber's songs are great torture/interrogation tools. I'll force you and your generals to listen to him in an effort to extract all the vital intel I need, and decorate your prison cells with irremovable Bieber posters.)

If you know how to mod, maybe you can turn Bieber into a Great Barbarian by default so you'll have a killing to look forward to.

I would go for it. And have the option to "sell" any Great Person to another civilization so we export the misery on them if we don't want to have anything to do with it.

I did throw some jokes in along with the serious requests, in order to help spice up the thread and give you guys a LOT more to post about. I'm glad you guys were able to weed most of the jokes out. (You did overlook a Japanese one or two.)
