List the CD that you loved at the time but now it sounds REALLY dated.

The latest Kent (Swedish band, sorry) cd. I really liked it in the beginning and probably didn't listen to anything else for a month. All the critics said at the time that it was their best album so far. Today, most agree that the cd is definitely not the best, the critics take it back and the music has been totally destroyed by the popular radio channels.:(

Today I seldom listen to that album, although I still enjoy their previous albums a lot.

The Friends of Mr. Cairo by Jon and Vangelis, although I still enjoy it.

What is modern punk? Blink 182? Green Day?

Modern punk rock doesn't sound anything like real punk rock. The Clash's stuff isn't dated, the new stuff just sucks.

Well, maybe Sandinista!, but only because it's loaded with tiresome politics. But Perfection is right, a good song never sounds dated.

A good CD never sounds dated.

I think you might feel differently about this as you get older. Think about how The Beatles changed over the course of their careers together, from simple pop tunes to complex album-oriented rock... This happens to every band or artist over time, and sometimes an album that sounds GREAT one year sounds kinda played-out a few years later. It's not that it wasn't good music,

The early Beatles albums were not good, though. Yes, they were popular, but so was NSYNC.

true, but that's only if you listen to a single genre for awhile and get bored of it, IMHO the more different kinds of music you listen to, the less you'll get tired of a single style.

Are we talking about dated, or old? There is a difference. Something like 80s new wave would sound dated. Something that was released last month and you've heard a billion times since then could sound old.

Dated. Think 80's analog synth and saxophone for example, none of which is BAD per se, but was trendy back then and so now it sounds creaky...

A couple of years ago I was mad about Roxette and the music of the 80es in general. Right now I have advanced towards the 60es and 70es.

I still consider Bon Jovi's New Jersey a good disc, but yeah, it's kind of dated. It's like Demi Moore. She's still extremely attractive, but you never subconsciously forget her age.

Alot of CDs become dated for me, only to return to my greatest respect, either by quality of the music or purely for nostalgia.

Right now, early 90s Manchester is in the dated category (ealry Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses etc.), but I loved that music so much at the time I'm sure it'll come back to me.

Don't forget the "Happy Mondays"! :)

Early Beatles were as much as a boy band as N Sync was. Then they became good. :p

With Heavy Metal, the more dated the better!

Iron Maiden's 'Killers' album sounds ancient, but that is why I love it so!
