Turns 285 - 295 / 1325AD - 1375AD

Turn 286: - Joao tries a trade mission... No idea where he was heading, but we make sure he does not arrive. Feels good. :satan:
merchantoe4.jpg

Turn 287: - I guess Zara was bribed in. AGAIN!!! (The troops in the sceenshot appearead a turn later.)
zaralp0.jpg

- Isabella made Sankore.

Turn 288: - Joao gets lucky, attacking Thebes with a diddle-squat. (The city holds but we loose some troops) [pissed]
- The Gods are against us as well... A flood event in Lakamha (Screenshot MIA). "Buildings has Been Destroyed" - but i did not see a message telling me what was destroyed.

Turn 289: - Oporto is taken without loses to our offensive stack.
oportoha6.jpg

- Zara moves for Lakamha. I am not really worried about the city, but the jerk pillages a Hamlet on his way, and there is not much i can do about it...
- Joao continues to be increadible lucky attacking Thebes. He killed 2 Longbows a Crossbow and a Mace, behind Walls at 50% cultural defence with a laughable force (The Crossbowman died to a Longbow...)
I reinforce with Trebuschets, because we got nothing else close...

Turn 290: - Zaras Knights hit mutal. Here the odds work as they ought, and every attacker dies. He did not pillaged Mutal... :thanks:
- Cathy pops a Great Spy

Turn 291: - Joaos "Stack" at Thebes is finally gone.
- Another cool Event... I am starting to feel, thet we might worship the wrong gods... (Screenshot didn't take again) "Fire destroyed Forge in Mutal". We pay to rebuild.

Turn 292: - Move offensive stack from Oprto toward Lissabon. Some Trebs are not 100% healed yet, but i think we got enought.
- Cathy declares on Zara Jaquob.

Turn 293: - Zaras stack attacks Lakamha. Despite beeing hit by 4 trebs in the onset of the battle our loses are bearable.
- I had 2 Knights and a Mace parked outside Lakamha, to prevent them from getting isjured by collateral. They kill the stronger units from ths stack, while our injured warriors from Lakamha finish the rest.
cathyqk6.jpg

- Also in the screenshot: Cathy declared on Zara last turn. Got to love those Backstabbing AI

Turn 294: - Cathy asking to Adopt HR and i agree. Nothing wrong with HR, and i think we can afford a turn right now.
hroa5.jpg

- She droped Hindu at some point - i did not see a message - and we gaining Mutual Strugle from Zara war - we might be able to stabilize our relations for a short while - till we are ready to hit her :mischief:
Cancel the free incense we give her at the same time.

Turn 295: - "Stop War vs. Zara" comes up with the AP. I vote "NO" as my feeling is, it is hurting him more than us. Also it keeps Cathy busy for the Moment. But i think the Resolution will pass ...

Our offensive Stack is on a hill before the gates of Lissabon, ready to start bombarding nect turn. Some trebs are not 100% healed yet - perhaps they can finish helaing, while the others start bombarding.

I made a Galley in Uxmal with the intention to ferry a wroker to improve the island in the City's BFC.

The Builds in Sparta, Athens (Pikes) and Uxmal (Buddha Monastery, for missionaries) are somewhat preliminary. I think they make at least some sense, but nothing invested, so override if you like.

At least it wasn't Zara and Cathy this time. :)

This is why I made comments about reinforcing the west. I knew we would have more problems. Once Lisbon falls, we can move the offensive force toward Zara. :hammer:

We still need to put IMHO as least three units per coastal city near those islands of Portugal.

Detailed comments in ~12 hours.

Sweetacshon will finally see our prophet. I look forward to the Taoist shrine. We will need to spread Taoism to our new Portuguese holdings.
We still need to start spreading Buddhism, since it is our start religion and we have it in less then 1/2 of our cities. We also need every possible point of cultural in the former Portuguese cities. I like the Buddhist monastery in Uxmal.

I would sign peace with Joao after Lisbon. We aren't set up for island hopping at this time. I am disappointed we only found one worker in is capitol. There is still way to much jungle in former Greece.

My big concern is the economy. We are too low a rate of science at 30%. Mutal lacks a grocer. Lakamha lacks a grocer and a court (with 9.80/turn maintenance). We need to get out of pure war mode, and develop these cities. We still have a long way to domination, and falling behind on the tech front. Let's trade gunpowder around - we can't afford to pass up any trading opportunities. With going for domination, I am not worried about the tech cap.

We may build exactly ONE worker. After that, we can only get workers via capture / settler kills.

Remember 15 peace (including phony wars) / 10 heavy war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: Domination, as the constant wars have ruled out space, diplomatic and cultural.

Planned wars - open to discussion when the workers appear.

Hmmm... easy upload ids down, I'll post the save later.

296
Cathy also voted no, and the AP vote fails. In addition, she nabs a northern city, Yeha.

297
Joao uses cats on the stack, achieving nothing. The workers are moved to the island for the iron mine. Trade guns for paper, banking, theo, and a bit of cash. I accidentally clicked yes for open borders with Cathy, which won't hurt too much, but don't trade with her as she is Fred's worst enemy.
The bombardment of Lisbon, and not much else, happens over the next few turns.

298, 299, 300
Lisbon is ours - look what we scored! 3 workers, a MI, and a swag of wonders.
Civ4ScreenShot0034-2.jpg

What's with this worker?
Civ4ScreenShot0035-1.jpg

Joao's capitualation was accepted, which in hindsight may not have been the best move due to rival/vassal modifiers. In any case, we can now concentrate on more important things.

301, 302, 303
What do you know? You trade guns to Fred, and all of a sudden he's beating poor Cathy up! Yakutsk is razed.

304, 305
Bhuddist missionaries, banks, armies regrouping and heading SW. Oporto revolts, so a few units are stacked in there, a missionary sent there, and the theatre should be whipped asap. 4 knights are hanging around up there, but should rejoin the army when the culture problem is fixed.

306
The GP is finally born, so DR is bulbed. . . . OK, not funny. The Dai Miao is built. Zara completes Liberalism. (possibly a turn or 2 ago)

307, 308
Zara completes the Taj Mahal. It is time we started beating on him. He just took back Yeha (and possibly razed it). Chemistry in, steel next. In fact I'll stop there for discussion. Do we want to keep on with steel, MSci, or trade chem for nationalism (with Fred) and go for MT, or we can go back for Education or PP? We kind of need time to keep building infrastructure, so Education might be useful, although not the greatest for trading around.

You've got to love this sort of thing>

Easy upload is most likely permanently gone. Some [censored] hacked the site, and it looks like we may never get it back. You need to attach the save.

New Updates
The economy is still hurting at 40% science.
I do see more economy building on the way. :)
Hopefully more income multipliers in Lisbon will help this. Something isn't right when a financial civ is hurting for economy. The trouble is we really need culture in that city. It may need to run artist to help out.

Some jobs are never done, and with taking out Joao we once again need to spread religion.

With Athens having 2 MI I don't want to spend a lot of time on buildings here. Once the library is done, can we get back to military?

I really don't know how useful our vassal of Joao will be. The trouble is I don't see how to convert him to Buddhism.

1490 AD
Our happy resources are unreal this game. We are getting +18 for resources in the capitol.

Chichen has plenty of happiness. I put it back on military.
(IT) Joao offers open borders, and I accept the offer. Anything that can improve relations is worth it.
I trade him some excess horses for the same reason.

Lisbon goes into revolt again.

1500 AD
I just caught some major :smoke:
Our Taoist shrine city is missing all the possible income multipliers.
(IT) Frederick offers nationalism for chemistry, and I accept the deal.

1505 AD
I don't know why we never revolted to theocracy. If we are going for domination, we want to get 2 promotions right out of the gate.

1510 AD
The bombardment of Aksum begins.

1515 AD
The bombardment of Aksum continues.

1520 AD
I never realized a slave revolt eliminates cultural defense. With 100% of the cultural defenses gone, I capture Aksum this turn only losing some sacrificial buckets.
We get a general from this that I will send to Chichen. This will give us triple promoted units from Chichen. :)
(IT) Now Oporto goes into revolt.

1535 AD
The bombardment of Addis Ababa begins.
(IT) This is frelling absurd. Oporto ends it revolt, just to start another one. :aargh:

1540 AD
The bombardment of Addis Ababa continues.
(IT) We've entered the industrial era.
I continue the all military path, and start research on military science.

1545 AD
The bombardment of Addis Ababa continues.

1550 AD
The bombardment of Addis Ababa continues. The city is now down to 0% defenses. I have no sacrificial bombard units to weaken the city.

=======================

New Updates
We need to keep Lisbon and Oporto in pure culture mode to stop these annoying revolts. Lisbon has finally gotten to 1% Mayan. I put Hermitage there, as we can't afford to have our key shrine city go into revolt.

Lakamha is our second best shield city, so set that to iron works. I don't want to depend our capitol, as think bureaucracy won't stay for the rest of this game as large as our empire is. I expect it to take less then 39 turns between the shields from Hindu temple, and hiring a priest for more shields.

Zara will capitulate at this time. However, I don't want another Lisbon headache. I would like to take Addis Ababa and Gondar. If Adulis becomes Zara's capitol, I would make him out vassal.
