LK26 - World Map

Skimmed the site, it looks interesting. I will look in detail at night.

You latest comments confirm that UU as cavalry is out. With comments of lances before, and crude firearms (musket man) - knights fit better. I wouldn't mind a little more info, but I am now at 90% for a UU of a knight.

I agree, naval UU bite. If I didn't remove England, I would have wanted a ManO'War replacement.

I agree on one attribute is Commercial with all of the trading. I read other comments before, but didn't make the connection.

I caught a couple of the cities names from the article, where did the rest come from?

@Jersey Joe - Any more progress with the US testing?

I think the next world map game will be ready long before LK32 is done.

All of the city names came from that site. At the end of the article is a link to a second article on Askia Muhammad. Thesecond article contains the rest of the city names. It also has some of their bigger named scholars. It would seems strange to have them as GLs and get one from a battle.

Also, while you are pulling week civs and spreading them out, maybe getting a civ north of India on the steppes would be a good thing. Get rid of one of the more crowded European powers.

Europe is getting thinned out already. When Australia was created, I remove England. Brazil removed go nowhere Japan. Shongai will take Rome out of Europe.

Shongai will be the next wm game, I have plans for something different for wm+2.

At that point, play the world should be out. I will want to see if the number of allowable civs increases :crazyeye:

I have already thought of Mongols for that area you mentioned.
If we can add some extra civs - Argentina giving Brazil competion, some civ in the SE Asia island area, etc.

If we keep enough wm players, there is plenty to play with variations. Hey, we could even play some of the standard countries ;)

The addtion research from meldor :goodjob:
It also gave me some more to check.
Here is where the next wm game stands:

hey LK, sounds nice... i especially like the fact that it will be a nice starting growth thing, then a HUGE dry spell in the Sahara ;)

Well I am open to ideas for researching the gaps above - see the >>>>> sections.

The good news - I didn't lose any work on LKworld due to the PC crash.

However, I won't have research time in the near future.

Lee I was letting this slide a little, but I will get the Americans to Marines within the next 2 weeks.

Name of a region / kingdom : Dendi, Kabara, Macina, Air, Futa Toro, Yatenga, Teghaza
Tondibi - Clearly defeat of Songhai battle site, but no clue if region or city except near Gao
Zaouiet Kounta or Kounta, Taoudenni - To far outside of the empire
Bindokas (I am not sure where this name came from)
Kukiya (NO references?)

Great Leaders =
Askia Mohammed (he was Sonni Ali's best general)
Alternate versions of name: Muhammad Ture, Muhammad Ibn Abi Bakr Ture
Ali Kohlen (was taken hostage, then later returned to Gao and liberated his people)

Unique Unit = A knight with the stats of 5-3-2
I found references to "chain-mailed cavalry", and other things that make knights sound the best option.

An interesting reference:
This influence was reinforced by an indirect, though nonetheless profound, Islamic propaganda. Muslim scholars went into areas they would not have been able to penetrate without the Gao ruler's support. And for several centuries to come, the small African states and the neighboring leaders would take as their model the Islamic empire of Songhai and its prestigious leader, Muhammad.

The implications:
1) Religious, not Scientific? It still could be argued either way.
2) The Songhai influenced cities they did not own. If we pick a couple of cities not directly part of Songhai, they still probably influenced them. The civ outlasted their empire - a civ to stand the test of time?

So far, the majority of this information is from britannica.com and google.com searches.

What I could use help on:
1) Another great leader or two.
2) A name for the Songhai knight
3) Comments on religious / scientific, I am starting to lean to religious.
4) Help on a few more cities - Silla, Gadiaro, Manikoura, Kouroussa could be part of the empire, but I can't find proof. Some maps put the empire close to Dakar in the west.
