LK30 - Regent, city placement training.

Alright, I finished it. Not too much happened, just a few key points:

-Warrior surivived barbarians, promoted to vet.
-Berlin switches to another warrior, finished it and barracks, and is now building a settler.
-We finish research on the wheel, no horses in sight yet. Start on alphabet
-It appears that the floodplain was the only one in the region, the rest is just plain desert
-We can see a new landmass to the North and East.
-We found silks to the West of Liepzig
-We find the American homeland to the south across a 2-tile choke point we'll want to secure, and the continent's end to the North

LAK-135.jpg

A single flood plain is not something that you see very often.
We still don't have a single bonus food tile outside of that, and that is a bit close to Leipzig.

America is toward the Black arrow, the next 10 turns should give us an idea how good of terrain they have.
We need a 2nd city QUICKLY to build more settlers from - Red X is still the next target.
The blue lines highlight the river - we will need another exploring warrior from Berlin to look at this area.
Don't turn the current warrior around - keep him going west. We need to find horses, and maybe another civ that way.
With the spices next to the river, we are looking at least two more jungle-infested cities.
All of the upcoming cities will be south of Berlin for the moment.

You must pause your turn the second a settler is BUILT and propose the city to be built.
At the point I will comment on city choice and the proposed location, and you will finish your turn

Finally!
I had to go to Apolyton to discover how to post here.

Personally I am not sure about locating a city in the red x, there would be an overlap in the only 2 productive grasslands from Berlin.
And we still dont know if it is possible to irrigate the 2 plains that border Berlin, lets hope we find a river or a lake in the north.
Anyway I will do it, it wont be a great city but we need settlers now.

I will download the game right now and post the game tomorrow.

That would be like 18 hours.

More commentsabout red x -
1) Cities near the capital / fp have the least corruption. Not a spot you want to give up.

2) You said the key - this is the ONLY other city we can get for a while to produce settlers. The city north of Berlin is weak - needs a temple and worker help to get to just 3 grassland. At some point it could produce settlers, but that is a while away.
Our next cities will probably me more jungle infested cities.

3) At some point we want to build military - Red X and Berlin are the only ones that can do it in the near future. The other cities will be producing workers for quite a few years.

4) Although it will use a lot of water, Red X can get to size 12 without much terrain help. We can use a city that won't need a ton of workers to get it productive.

I cant play :(, please skip me.
It gives me an error whenever I try to upload the game.
If I can solve the problem I will tell you.

EDIT: I misread something, please disregard this post.

What error does it give you?

Am I correct that you played your 10 turns?

I know that site was down for a while.

Can you let us know your status?
It sounds like you completed your ten turns, so I would prefer NOT to skipped.

da_greatest will go if I don't here something with in next 24 hours.

I'm going to drop out of this SG. School kind of conflicts with my CFC time. Wish I could stay. Thanks.

I got done with this faster than I thought I would. Research was set on 50% (5gpt for 20 turns), I changed a citizen in Berlin to work the hill with wine (one more gold), then I changed the research to 90% (9gpt for 11 turns). This will get the tech 9 turns sooner and use 1 less gold.

(1) 2230 BC- Worker produced in Leipzig, I moved it to the SW. A barbarian becomes visible north of Berlin. I changed production from settler to warrior and moved the worker east and see that the city site you picked out is a bonus grassland.
(2) 2190 BC- One worker clears jungle and the other skips a turn.
(3) 2150 BC- Warrior is produced and a settler is ordered. The worker was moved back to the grassland he was mining before.
(4) 2110 BC- Masonry from goody hut. Recently created warrior looks for the barbarian camp.
(5) 2070 BC- warrior movement
(6) 2030 BC- same
(7) 1990 BC- reduce research to 70%, same amount of turns but 2 less gold
(8) 1950 BC- movement
(9) 1910 BC- same
(10) 1870 BC- same

Alphabet will be discovered the next turn. You might see what you can get with it from Abe. I never found the barbarian camp to the north. The settler will be built the next turn. I think it should be placed either one square to the NW or one square to the SW. Both sites would share two bonus grassland and two mountains with Berlin.

I grabbed the game and will check out the settler position tonight. Lee are you commenting on the next city local now or after I start?

I started reviewing the game last night, but it got to late.

I will be posting comments today.

Okay, will check your comments then go ahead with my turns. Am I safe to assume your comments will be about the next settler that is yet to be built? That being said I can just play the 10 turns following your lead and not pause after that particular settler is completed.

Some minor commentary -
Let's get one of the warriors from the north below Berlin, that is where most of the territory to explore is. Don't miss that one little spot of unexplored land.

Berlin should squeeze out some spearman between settlers. Leipzig should get its defender from either Berlin or the new city.

LAK-142.jpg

White dot is the approximate location of a possible city. Moving southwest to yellow dot will cause excess overlap with white dot, so that option is clearly ruled out.

This is what Berlin can achieve after rails / electricity. The white numbers are food positive, at +11. The black numbers are food negavite, at -13. This tells us one mountain can NEVER be used by Berlin. Using the 2nd mountain won't be used until all of the water is claimed. The next question is what does green dot vs. red dot due for production.

LAK-143.jpg

Red dot is the original position will have 6 grasslands (2 overlap), 3 future grassland (jungle) wasting a bonus grassland. The green line is what would be gained by moving nw, blue dot would be lost moving nw. Net effect is we lose a grassland for a forest (future grassland) and 2 mountains, 1 claimed by Berlin. There is more chance for a whale in the unknown with Red dot. I can't find enough gain to justify this move, let's stick with Red Dot.

1830 BC (1): Learn Alphabet, start on Iron Working, Berlin finishes Settler, start Spearman. Leipzig builds worker and starts another. Set research to 90%, IW in 21, -1gpt. Trade Abe, alphabet for Mysticsm and 17 gold. Bust some fog to the SW.

1790 BC (2): Settler in position on the bonus grass. Barb camp to the North.

1750 BC (3): Found Hamburg at the predetermined red x. Start grainery, will help build settlers/workers faster. Dispersed Jute camp, barely, +25 gold, no promotions :(. See a hut to the W, South of Americans.

1725 BC (4): Some more warrior movement, see the hut, some silk and a camp.

1700 BC (5): Hut, taught us HBR. IW in 13 +0 gpt. Abe has no tech to trade.

1675 BC (6): Peninsula to the NE shows a wheat and a whale [cool].

1650 BC (7): Dispers camp +25 gold, Berlin finished spear, heading toward, Leipzig for front line defence. Start Settler, due in 8, growth to 3 in 7. Some MM between berlin and Hamburg should be able to get settler in 7 and growth in 7, a mine on the other wines would help too.

1625 BC (8): Some movement

1600 BC (9): Jungle clearing completed! Reveals bonus grass [party]. Irrigation ordered.

1575 Bc (10): more movement, let spear clear some more fog to the E. another hut spotted in the SW. 2 warrior posted to the N for barbs. Trade Abe, HBR for IW and his 18 gold. 2 Iron deposits spotted, both far away. Way out West of Lepzig and Way North in the Mountains.
