LK51 - Emperor - World Map

There were 6 or so units stuck up north and it would have taking more than my turn to get them down to the action. What was I supposed to do. The Aztecs got it because they dared to launch a galley. I will sink that galley if I have to rush build a Frigate in every city on the coast.

I am building workers in evry city that is size 12 with a full food box. We also still have to cities building 3 workers every 2 turns. Add to that rushing worlers in Brazilian cities and some other captures to get rid of foriegn citizens.

I would like to get three more cities (all but the Brazil size twelve cores)
We will see how far it goes, but I would take Brazil out before they get rifles. I really want to own the Pyramids. Don't forget Pyramids are industrious. We have an expansionist wonder. If we build suffrage while owning both, we get our GA the turn factories are available. That would be an awesome time for the GA.
I meant that I would like to get three more Brazilian cities on my turn, not for the rest of the war. I figure I will be doing good to hit them, absorb their initial rush of built up units and cut off all but their size 12 cities in their core. That doesn't mean that the next person or persons can't continue the war and take out the rest.

If anyone is wondering about the RoPs and small trade deals, on this map a single AI opponent will bring in as many of the rest as they can. It starts a chain reaction and next thing you know you are at war with half the world or more. Simple trade deals and things like RoPs (especailly when they aren't anywhere near us) keeps them from taking chump change to declare a war they have no means to pursue and cutting off our trade roots to boot. The only one I haven't made such deals with is are next intended victim, Argentina.

@Meldor - My comments about the Iroquois were meant as a joke. Failed on that one.

I expected the Iroquois war to be done when factories were coming on line, and nothing better to do with the troops. The amount of aggresion caught me off guard.

===========================

The Brazil comments were what you think can get your turn - got it. Rubberjello has the challenge to get the Pyramids before we build Sufferage. Being a republic we really want that wonder.

The thought of a GA to build factories. [dance]

You asked for it before the last turn, I figured I was dong what you wanted. Besides, I get tired of having to talk to all those AIs every turn. Cutting them down by two or three will make the turns go easier.

I am starting to build a lot of Cav. Almost every city that completes a build (after pealing a worker) builds at least one Cav. While the stacks in Brazil were good enough to start things off (Thanks!) and the libs and Unis were needed for research and culture flipping defense, we will need more units shortly. The units should be makeing there way down just as the workers are railing there way back up. I have workers at almost all points along the north/south path and this will be the first defense/offensive priority, getting a rainl line from north to south. Then we can rail the coastal areas to stop invasions and connect up and rial the core. I will only have 2-3 turns of railing on my round so I won't complete the Pan-American railroad but will give it a good start.

Take your time, meldor. I'm up in another Huge Map Succession Game with a mega-war going on in the Modern Age, and it is going to take me 2 days to finish it (I figure). Good job with the trades. The last time I played a World Map, I fell into the trap you mentioned. I started a war to finish off a small opponent, and 3 turns later over 12 Civs were at war with me in a chain reaction!

1275 AD (5)
Swap Point Hope to a spear due next turn as there are a couple of Iroquois bows in the area. Swap Mazatlan to a frigate and rush it. We get 121g from Australia for an RoP. Russia RoP for 17g and 3gpt. Greece gets an RoP for 7g and 6gpt.
(I) Egypt and Persia ally against China. The Mongols and Persia sign an MPP. Iroquois MW dies trying to kill a spear fortified on a hill. The Aztecs suddenly have a pop one twon in Alaska? Did you turn respawn on for this Lee, as the also have 4 units as well. Brazil sends out an MDI to die. Brazil and China ally agains Russia. France and China sign against Eygpt. The MPP hits and the Mongols declare on China.

1280 AD (6)
We frigate the last Aztec galley. What the heck! They suddenly have 2 spears, 2 longbow and a pike in a stack in Alaska with the mystery city. We go at San Christobal again. We only have knights and an MDI this turn all elites. They have 4 muskets there now. 1 knight dies 2 retreat and the MDI is the only one to win, but he gives us Grant, who won't form the army of Amazon in this Universe. Joan gets silks for 80g and 11gpt. She also gets saltpeter for 37gpt.
(I) The MDI that gave us grant defends itself against an MDI but dies being attacked by a pike!

1285 AD (7)
Not much action this turn. Our units in Brazil kill the offending pike and gather for and assualt next turn. We kill two Iroquois longbows and a spear up north.
(I) Brazil has Cav now as one comes out of San Cristobal to try and kill off a hurt knight and is unsucessful. Another appears out of Recife. An Iroquois bow manages to kill a musket. We get steam and begin Industrialization. I spot at least one coal already hooked up. Will see how much we have when I get to the next turn.

1290 AD (8)
Another seemingly boring turn. We got started on rails and units moved into postion. We send steam to Eygpt for nationalism and 64gpt. She then gets coal for 46g and 48gpt. Australia get nationalism for Democracy, 21g and 181gpt. Babylon gets Democracy for 29g and 10gpt. The Mongols get nationalism for Free Artistry, 3g, and 74gpt. Russia gets Steam power for WM 20g and 109gpt, unfortunately she can't afford to buy coal, but we will come back next turn and check. India gets nationalism for 57g and 137gpt. The songhai get Steamed for 97g and 82gpt. France gets nationalism for 60g and 32gpt. China gets steamed for 1g, spices and 48gpt. Greece gets steamed for 82gpt and 50g. The Persians get steamed for 4047g and 45gpt. I then turn Science up to 90% and we are still making 894gpt. I could go at 100% and still pull in 702gpt but Industrialization would still be at 7 turns. With 5400+ in the bank I first upgrade 54 muskets and 1 pike to Rifles. There are still 45 muskets in cities that couldn't upgrade. I will start swapping them out next turn or building barracks and harbors in the cites as needed. I then go on a rush building spree (buildings only), not stopping until we are below 1000g in the bank. it is going to be one long interturn.
(I) That stinking Iroquois bow takes out a fortified spear. We lose a Cav to a Brazilian Cav. Then we start all of the WLT(Meldor)Ds in the cities and the production changes from all the buildings built. We get an addition to the palace to boot.

1295 AD (9)
We capture Kiohero and get another slave. We lose 1 cav and one knight but we take San Christobal and three more slaves. When then Take Recife and 4 slaves. The Aztec pike, spear and 2 bows that arrived outside of Port hope got there just in time to watch me upgrade all three spears to rifles. I kill off that Iroquoois bow that took out our two units. Babylon gets physics for 58g and 24gpt. The mongols get furs for 8g and 6gpt.

Ooo, the joy to reap th erewards of a monopoly tech :) May we get many more.

Grimjack

1 knight dies 2 retreat and the MDI is the only one to win, but he gives us Grant,

Can you say lock on Universal Suffrage the turn after we get the Pyramids? [dance] [dance]

=====================

The Aztecs suddenly have a pop one town in Alaska? Did you turn respawn on for this Lee, as the also have 4 units as well.
Venezuela didn't pop back up. This unit could have been wandering for ages. The AI panic when they have no cities and build anywhere. Think back to other games when almost dead civ declared war to plop a city in AI territory.

Well don't get stuck on monopoly techs. I know I sound like a broken record on this one, but speeding up the tech pace works against us. We still have a lot of world to take over, and I still have nightmares from the world map Australia game and having to stop America who had **9** space parts I/P or built. We can drop science to 40% or 50% after factories and still hold the lead. Rushing temples at $236 each requires plenty of cash to spend.

Now if we can get a few more The Persians get steamed for 4047g ...

Of course, I doubt we will get another chance for mpp at >$700/turn like last game.

************News Flash******************
Dateline Kansas City
President Meldor announced the completion of the Pan Ameerican Railway linking both the Capital center in the north with the one in the south. He praised the American work force for completing such a monutental task in only 10 years. He added that the spur connecting the old capital of Boston to this vital rail route would be completed within the next five years. He stated that this inital rail line now enables us to transport troops and suppplies form the industrial north to the war areas of the south without delay. With the increased training of Cavalry units, this link will enable us to quickly finish this nasty business with the Brazilian forces and fulfill the mandates put before us by the people.

Lee, The Aztecs had one Galley which I was escorting and waiting for the declaration to attack. The city appeared on the on piece of the landmass which could hold a city and not violate the center 9 squares of another. The city "suddenly" had a pike, 2 spear, and 2 longbow come out of it, and I haven't determined how many units are defneding it. I will load the first save and see if this city is there at the start. If it is then my bad. If it isn't, then this will be a total mystery to me. How did they build so many unit, transport them on one galley and yet still build units in their capital? Like I said, I may have overlooked it.

[EDIT]I didn't save Grant. I built the Army of the Amazon with him which has one Cav in it awaiting the chance it get an easy victory and give us HE and the MA pre-build. I have a pre-build going for most like ToE. We have a bunch of elite Cav now and so we should have no troubles getting another leader. If I get another one I will hold it for US if you want.

Well I can't explain the Aztec city then. Venezuela simply died, and I have NEVER played a game with respawn. However, even respawn would not produce 2 different types of units. It would be all spear or all pike.

Grant, who won't form the army of Amazon in this Universe
The won't in the above is why the confusion. With just 7 turns to factories, I would save the next leader for a suffrage rush. That would insure we get that very critical wonder for lots of war under republic. It would also let us time it for the turn after we get the Pyramids for our overdue GA.

===========================
@All - Our big challenge is to get the South America core up and running ASAP. If we pull of the GA let us avoid the temptation for a huge science push, and instead rush buildings like crazy down there.

Sorry, it was late, it should have read "Grant, who won't form the Army of the Potomac in this universe, forms the Army of the Amazon."

I think we will have no problem pulling another leader before the end of action in Brazil. I haven't been listing promotions but we have a large percentage of elite troops (mainly because there have only been two Cav arrive from the north in my turns and those on the last two). There were no military units building anywhere in any city that would complete in time to help with Brazil on my turns. That is why I will be happy to have taken 5 Brazilian cities by the time my turn is up. Some of the few units we have gotten built also went to give us some fast units up north to fight the Aztecs and Iroquois. The latter bieng my fault for starting the wars. The Aztec war I thought would be over when I took the island city. The Iroquois war was started to keep them from getting any stronger, building anymore units. The next person can make happy with the Iroquois for 2 cities, but why bother.

1295 AD (9)
(I) The Aztec's attack with one Bow and manage to kill a rifle. The Argentinians and Brazilians sign a trade embargo against us. Too bad, we weren't going to ship anything to Argentina anyway. Brazil then turns around and asks for a peace treaty. Babylon and China sign agianst Russia. We lose ivory and silks.

1300 AD (10)
*******We capture Manaus. Building rails to Alaska to aid the war effort.*******

I hit a bug while trying to save. Basically I could save or restore the game. I didn't have time to redo the last turn. If you use the two elite Cav that are farthest from Manaus you will take it with the first two attacks. You can then rail where you want.

There are a stack of Brazilians units that are going to come out of the fog near San Christobal.

The save file has the autosave from the last turn 1300AD and the save on the turn just prior to hitting enter 1295AD. The 1295AD file is included in case the 1295AD file is corrupt.

Such as it is...

I will try and check back before bed time to see if there were any problems with the save. If not I will be gone the entire weekend on a trialride.

Got it. I unzipped and tried loading both, and both worked. We should be set, Thanks!

(This is going to be a long set of turns, it looks like!)

lk51pic007.jpg

1300: (0) In what must be the most incredible breakthru in scientific history, the Americans show the world their new time-traveling technology. The poor saps in the armed forces, Cavalry Divisions, are totally underwhelmed with the technology when they discover that they have to charge through the exact same bloody battles again! (We capture Manaus as before). We railroad the same squares (I hope), and gather together the invasion force against Brazil. Trade WM around and see the lay of the land tech-wise. Trade off a few old techs to the cellar dwellars for gpt.

IT: Joan wants us to pay her for a MPP. (She's cute, but not THAT cute!) Notice there is a piece of River in the ocean next to Ireland (in case map comments are welcome) We lost our supply of gems. We renew our deal with Germany by giving him some old techs. The dang Aztecs kill one of our Reg Riflemen in New Hope! (Longbow). In Brazil, 2 Cav attack, and both are retreated by our Riflemen guarding our Cavs. Decline Bab's offer for an alliance against Australia. Skannayutenate (Iro) flips to us!!! Woohoo! That's one less little mini-front to worry about. A new source of Iron appears in Cuba.

1305: (1) We sure are short of Rifles/Guardians! We capture Brasilia (size 12) after defeating a vet Musket, vet Pikeman, 2 Vet Cavs, a wounded Elite Cav, a MI, and a Spear. We lose one Cav. and redline 5 - and gain 6 slaves. Set up invasion forces for two more Brazilian cities next turn. Stage forces in the North for the final push up there. Continue railroading for the military net. Almost complete Rail line up to Alaska.

IT: Some Iro Longbow movement. One of our stacks in Brazil fights off a Cav attack. In New Hope the last rifle *BARELY* repels the last Aztec Longbow. Monty is soooooooo doomed next turn.

1310: (2) We capture Belo Horizonte (Size 12 Brazil coastal city). It was defended by by 4 Pikes and a M.I. and we lost 1 Cav & gained 2 workers. The Army of the Amazon gains its first? victory, and we can build Heroic Epic. We also capture Sao Paulo (Brazil, size 12, coast) and are into the first ring of Brazil. It was defended by 4 Vet Muskets, a M.I., and a wounded Cav. We capture 4 slaves and only lost 1 cav (6 elite Cavs were red-lined!)
We destroy Ecatepec (Aztec capitol) guarded by two spears with no losses. Monty is (about time!) thrown into the trash heap of failed civilizations and we gain 1 worker.
lk51pic003.jpg

Against the Iros we capture Oiogueun (North coast) with no losses and kill 3 spears and 2 Longbows.
Trade WM around. Persia is up both Medicine and Communism. Medicine is a monopoly, but Communism is now known by 2 others. Not much negotiable gold out there right now.

IT: Renew Furs trade to Russia. They sink a Brazilian galley for us. Babylon and Persia unite against China (Good for them!) Renew Fur deal with China for a lesser amount. We lose our Dyes deal, and the prices are outrageous to renew.

1315: (3) Greenland sure looks like a fortress now. Too bad there is nothing valuable up there to be a fortress against! Kill 3 Spears in Owego (Iro), but there is a 4'th one left over. The battle for Salvador I thought would be a major bloodbath, but the RNG gods were good to us. It was defended by 3 Cats, 2 Vet Muskets, 1 Reg Musket, and 3 Vet Spears. We only lost 1 elite Cav and relined 5 Cavs. We control the pyramids.
lk51pic004.jpg

(Hey Lee! Can I get a raise now?) Send on two stacks to the next two Brazilian cities, and another Iroqouis city.

IT: Renew Furs deal to Egypt for a lower price. Egypt and China make peace. No Iro or Brazilian activity. A couple of fringe cities riot.

1320: (4) Scale science down to 60% to get Industrial next turn. We capture Niagra Falls (Iro) without a problem and no losses (Musket and Spear defending). We capture Owego after a demonic Iro spear kills one Cav and redlines another. We do capture 7 workers though! Only 2 more Iro cities to go. In the South, we capture Rio de Janeiro from 2 Muskets and 2 Spears with no losses.
lk51pic005.jpg

In the battle for Nova Iguaco, I am FINALLY blessed with a Great Leader. Macarthur will be used to build Suffrage next turn and usher in our Golden Age. :D ( I kept track...this was my 23'rd Elite win this set of turns) This city also falls and only had 3 Pike defenders. Brazil only has 3 cities in South America left, and 1 in Siberia.
By extended use of building Railroads right to the front, I'm able to make more attacks this turn. Onnontare (Iro) is conquered easily with no losses + 3 slaves. Goainia (Brazil) also falls with no losses. Porto Alegra also falls with no losses. Trade WM around, nothing new on the tech front.

IT: We learn Industrialization. Switched to Electricty on minimum Science. (Vetoable). Brazil counterattack with a Cav kills one of ours. We get the Ironworks message! Now I just got to figure out which city...

1325: (5)Hurry Universal Suffrage in Dallas with MacArthur. Change all core cities to build Factories. Fortaleza is the last Brazilian city in the Americas. We capture it with a loss of 1 Cav. Land 2 Cavs next to their last city in Siberia. Goigoen is the last Iroquis city, and I take out 3 spears, but didn't have enough in place to take out the fourth. Start beating down the Resistance in the captured cities.

IT: France and Egypt make peace. Uhmmmm...nothing much else except the Argentinians are starting to get a little excited (troop movement). We build Universal Suffrage and enter our Golden Age! I am *definitely* going to hit Lee up for a pay increase now!

lk51pic006.jpg

Great set of turns.

23 is actually average for producing Great Leaders. Approximately 1 in 20 ought to produce Leader for non-militaristic.

Grimjack

GA for the mass factory push. [dance]
Now can we get corporation during this turn and get the stock exchanges also build during the GA?

1330: (6) We destroy Vitoria (Brazil-in Siberia) and they finally bite the dust. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! They have a settler on a ship somewhere. I have to make peace because war weariness is kicking in big-time. I hate it when this happens! I attack the last Iro city at Goigoen. It falls with no losses and a Cav promotion. AGAIN!!! ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!! There is an Iro ship/settler somewhere. I don't make peace yet because the Iros are not causing any War Weariness. Decide to switch to Corporation due in 4 turns at 100% with a +825 profit. We can build Ironworks in Rio de Janeiro ( fairly near our Capital!) But a lot of work has to go into it first, and we still have to do the city renames. Rush a bunch of Temples and Libraries. What the ???? India just learned Industrial? I do a round of trading to try to salvage the situation. Persia gets Industrial for 613 gpt. Greece gets it for Dyes and 42 gpt. China gets it for a straight swap for Medicine. Songhai gets Ind. and Medicine for Communism and 8 gpt. Egypt gets Medicine for 47 gpt and 350 gold. Australia gets Medicine for 60 gpt and change. The rest of the world is now officially broke.

IT: Renew Silks to Russia deal for same price. A huge number of WLTP days started.

1335: (7) Railroading...Rushing. Our military railnet is almost complete with every mainland city connected by rails.

IT: Nada

1340: (8) Railnet complete, starting on core. All units healed up and staged.

IT: China and Russia sign peace.

1345: (9) Trade WM around, nothing has changed tech-wise. Research to 60% for Corporation due next turn.

IT: Nada

1350: (10) We learn Corporation. Science set to minimum for Sanitation (+4800 GPT for infrastructure rushing, if we want it!) First Factories complete. They start on Stock Exchanges.

Some of our internal cities have NO guardians. This was necessary during the war to get Rifleman up there quickly to protect our Cav stacks and to garrison. We are really short on defender units, but that is not a huge problem. Our Worker city at Salt Lake City needs constant MM each turn to generate 1 worker per turn. Toronto is still a 2 turn Worker factory with no MM. Sorry...but I was basically pretty lazy this turn about doing the city renames. I had to hurry things up near the end of my turns due to RL stuff. Brazil and the Iros are still doing the Waterworld thing and floating out in the ocean somewhere.

Argentine War? Grimjack can decide. I didn't start one for the following reasons:
1) We have a butt-load of infrastructure to catch up on - Factories, Stock Exchanges, and even Police Stations on the seceond tier cities. To have a major war when your core is not sending reinforcements just sucks.

2) They know Nationalism, which means not only Rifles but Conscription. This is a recipe for sending our 60+ Cavalry to the glue factory in a hurry. War would have to waged very carefully and with overwhelming numbers, or else wait for Replaceable Parts and build up our Artillary arm.

3) Argentina is no pushover. They are fifth in power in the world. Any long, bloody campaign may draw war weariness which is a big no-no during a golden age.

The Game (1350)

lk51pic008.jpg

We want to stay out of war during the GA. This is the time to get all the factories, and stock exchanges going. I want police stations in ALL cities for the war weariness help. Suffrage, police stations and cathedrals (with sistine), and bachs will let us handle war whiners pretty well.

Remember the corruption fighting of police stations was added later. The main purpose is to stop war complaints.

With absurd cash we can get the barracks in the missing cities to upgrade to rifles.
