Well, I for one am fairly pleased with the graphics for the individual units, but I wanna cry when I zoom into look at my cities! I long for the good ol' days of the 'city view'.

Aquaducts going everywhere at odd angles, buildings melted into each other or into the terrain, etc... The actual graphics for the cities/improvements/wonders are OK for what they were trying to represent with them, but it just seems to be too much stuff to try to crowd into such a small space.

Actually, this is one of the least trollish threads on CFC I've seen in a few weeks...

When zoomed in, the graphics DO look pretty weak. The terrain looks washed out, the units don't have a high enough polygon count, and the "road placemat" that modern cities sit on top of looks really, really bad.

I like the game, and even I can admit this.

agreed... the Civilization series is basicly an advanced version of Risk... if your after graphics your in the wrong place. though imo Civ 4 is easy on the eyes

I agree. The graphics in this game are nothing special, and the framerate one gets for the graphics given are even worse.

I can run Doom3 at 1280x1024 @ 256mb high textures at roughly 30-40fps. Zoom out to earth view on civ4, which quite unimpressive graphics, and chug-chug-chug.

For a Civ game, the graphics are nice, and as someone mentioned the graphics arnt the reason you play the civ games. But they ARE pretty poor for the given framerate and the current technology.

I have been playing Civ since Civ for DOS back in the early 90's. Every new version and every expansion was an improvement in graphics/gameplay till now. I am not and never have been interested in modding personally. If I pay 50 bucks for something, it should be right to begin with and not have to be 'fixed'!

I find it kind of disturbing that we can't expect to get great graphics just because "Civ isn't that kind of game". They had the opportunity to make it that kind of game.

And, as an added bonus, there would be less threads of the "Sid, you betrayed us!" variety, because Civ 1,2 &3 old-timers wouldn't be encouraged to try and play it on their POS PC's like they've become accustomed to.
