Loaded a game and suddenly quick combat is on?

So I just started a game yesterday as Poland. Quick combat was not on, and the animations were all working fine.

This morning I go to load my game and none of the combat animations are playing for me or the AIs. I tried restarting Civ to no avail. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've got a really good map and I don't want to throw away the game on some lame bug.

Oh wow, it was checked on in game options.

How could it just turn itself on though? Is there a known hotkey that I might've accidently pressed?

You should be thankful. The game is simply nudging you along, guiding you towards the superior way to play. ;) Think about it: in the time that you waste watching arrows fly or planes circle, you could play that many more games, with all their new and varied excitements! I've never watched a single civ animation (apart from wonder movies and nuclear explosions); I even wish I could disable the leader animations so that my computer could catch a breath every once in a while.

I have the same problem with quick movement. I have quick combat on always, but quick movement is too game-breaking for me.

Especially when I download saves from here- it is ALWAYS on and I have to turn it off again. I don't really understand why.

I enjoy the animations though, it makes it more exciting and real to me, even if some of them do take too long (airplanes, I'm looking at you). Playing with them off makes it feel too much like a simulation or a chess game. Not that chess isn't fun, but it's a different kind of abstract-bland fun.

Yeah, I avoid Quick Movement unless the turn time are just crawling (which rarely happens); it just kills the immersion too much for me. I start games with Quick Combat off, but I'll turn it on if I start having to watch 100 planes attack/re-base each turn.

I'm with you, I like the early animations but by late game it's tedious, partially because I always have to keep tabs on everyone and there's almost always a war going on in LOS of one of my scouts or caravels. Usually around Industrial I start switching to Strategic view before hitting end turn, really helps.

Fair enough. I play in Strategic View, too, so I guess I get my immersion from different things. Generally I think of the game view as a board in my 'war room', where I push pawns around (literally!). I do like to watch the nuclear explosions though -- gives you a sense of accomplishment to actually see those cities and units incinerated! :mwaha: As a famed autocrat once said (paraphrasing ;)), 'an animated death is a tragedy... While a million quick combat deaths are just a statistic'.

There is a mod that speeds up air animations btw; you should get it unless you really like your achievements.

I agree, quick movement is the immersion killer.

Glad Firaxis made it an option and didn't just assume what players wanted, like they did upon release. Now everybody is a happy camper :)
