Hello all, I have been reading over civ forum's for year's now and finally decided to register. I play Civilization 3, usually for a domination or conquest victory with a diplomatic win also possible. Their is alot I would like to ask from the good players such as vxmca i think it is? Commando bob etc.

1. How can you mod the naval unit's in a way so that the AI can successfully invade one another or the player? I usually play Continents or Pangea because the AI stands no chance on the Archap maps with military victory conditions. For example, they have 200 military unit's, but during a war they land one transport with a few units on my borders..

2. Civ 3 gives me pains in the wrist after a few hours of playing, is it possible to reduce the mouse click's..or is short keys the only way?

3. I leave the game mostly un-modded, but what are a few of your favorite modded unit's that spice the game up.. such as a unit that captures enemy worker's etc.

How old is everyone and where from

Hi Rjpkool24, thanks for the kind words.

1: don't think it can be done as AoI did not even manage to get the AI to invade.
2: try a track marble. I used that for years and you do not have to move the mouse, so no strain on the wrist. Not so easy on the fingers, but you have more of them.

You do not even want to know how old I am, but I was in the Navy in 1963.

Welcome Rjp,

2. Have you found the shortcut keys for moving stacks and all of a single kind of unit?

3. I play the game unmodded.

ages? I'd guess 8-80, I'm in the upper half

Is that AD or BC?

I'm in the upper 30's so vmxa was cruising the world before I was even a thought.

Re: #2 - I think some players use a number pad, but that's just a guess. Is that still possible?

RE: #3 - I play mostly the XotM so no modding for me, though after CommandoBob's introduction to CCM I am really considering given that a try! If you have C3C some of the scenarios are also interesting variants. I like the Rise of Rome, particularly with its no unit support later in the game. :D Being able to upgrade Legions was a nice touch and 2 turn settlers is just a bonus.

Rjpkool24 that is a great question about modding naval units. I haven't played modded for about five years and I'm not sure if it is possible change the troop capacity of a galleon from 4 to 40. Or a transport from 6 to 60. If that doesn't help the AI's naval invasion nothing will. I sometimes get wrist pain from the mouse as well. I'm 38.

Nice to see your replies, you know I may just try the capacity thing and see if they attempt to drop off a large amount of soldier's. I am gonna also look in to the new mouse that was mentioned, I may buy one this weekend. Civ 3 can be very tedious. Their are times when I don't properly bombard the ai because it becomes to much of a pain. Does anyone know if you can make lets say 20 bombers all bomb that turn without having to click each one individually? The same goes for naval ships. you should be able to make them all bombard one after another if they are stacked, so the player does not have to select each one over and over. 21 years old here, from New Orleans,La

I always move units with the number pad. 32 from Ohio.

A noteworthy AI invasion defined as 6 Frigates guarding 3 Galleons that land a vKnight, vPike and vLongbow in a distant, railroaded and lightly guarded science farm area to bravely face stacks of artillery, cavalry, infantry and tanks that are parked around the capital.

I'm a mere 54 from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metromess.

EDIT:

Oh, lest I forget...

Welcome to the forum!

Best AI invasion I ever saw was 2 transports full of tanks. By that time in a game, thats equivalent to a warrior, as any reasonably able player could handle it with ease.

45 in Central Ohio, been playing Civ about 15 years.

The only mod I use is a border graphic enhancement - huge fan of the triangle border thing someone made. However, in the past I have tinkered with the settings to try to create games with a really long ancient era (I.e. tiny map with huge map science settings, etc.).

As for mouse movement, I use shortcut keys combined with the number pad to minimize mouse movement as much as possible. There are still times it is necessary but if you know that r is for road/rail, b is for build, i is for irrigation, etc, then you can go long periods without touching the mouse. Anymore, I mostly play on a laptop with a number pad and a stupid touchpad mouse so limiting mouse usage is a good thing.

I'm from the US and in my 40's.

Hotkeys are wonderful things, I use a lot of them myself.

16 from Virginia.

What do the number's do..1 2 3 etc right? Also the ai still don't invade well even with larger transport capacity..instead they will will transport a few unit's escorted by several ships. however they did use a carrier once and bomb one of my towns.
