Longest session of straight Civ3 playing

IOn a side note, after I've been playing for several hours (5 or more) and I lie down, I feel as if I have a high. I feel kind of drugged up. Does anyone else get that feeling? I know that a lot of us are addicts, so I'll bet that we have similar reactions. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have an addiction to Civ 3 than to put a substance into my body and take a chance on becoming addicted to that. I think that this site should be renamed to Civaddicts.com.

Well, for one thing, my eyes hurt! Civ marathons and basements don't mix! ;) About the 'high' you feel, I couldn't say. I do feel slightly dazed, and often, after about five minutes, start to think about Civ again. :D Time is definetely messed up by Civ though; I'll often have no idea what time it is after a 5+ hour game. Welcome to the forum my friend. As someone once said, coming here is like like an alcoholic getting tips from his bartender! ;)

Wow, I didn't expect such a huge response.

My mom for sure would kill me if I was taking up so much time on the computer. Plus there's also all the schoolwork I must do.

A lot of times for me after I play for maybe an hour my RAM runs out of space and Windows has to page my hard drive for memory. That is what stops me fromp laying more.

Not so long ago I played about 3-4 hours a night, maybe 3 nights a week. My longest single session was probably 9 hours on a day off with my wife out of town. Finished a whole game with a diplomatic victory in the early 1900's. I think my score was 1200 something. It was still a blast.
Now, with triplets on the way I maybe get 45 minutes in once or twice a week. God only knows how little I'll play when they get here! Such is the price of procreation.

I have played about 16 hours or so probably as my longest period of time.

When I first got Civ 3, I was playing probably 10-12 hours a day for the first week or week and a half. (I play at work for about 6-7 of those hours.)

That's a lot of civ.

And I still can't beat Deity.

God, I'm glad I can't play at work - bad enough I browse CivFanatics here! I'd lose my job for sure!

:D

Nice to see I'm not the only Civ addict out there! Ever since Civ1...
With Civ3 I've been playing almost every evening, and often all day on weekends.. yeah, 12 hours at a stretch or more. But I do take short breaks every so often.. after all, it IS a turn based game, not a RTS - thank God!
Just got PTW yesterday, so there's no relief in sight! :crazyeye:

I too have an unsympathetic wife and two kids....

About 7 years ago I was made redundant and for three glorious months was unemployed. My routine was get all the house hold chores done, send out applications for jobs etc all by early morning and the rest of the time was for CIV II.

Crashing back to the present day, I am lucky to be able to get more than 1 (2-3 hour)CIV III session a month. :(
In fact I've have never fully completed a game...just don't have the time

...and my wife is now expecting our third!

I limit myself to 30 minutes to 1 hr. Then I have to do something else. But then I come back and waste more time later. Too bad all of us can't harness all our CIV power to fuel some big power-plant with all the energy we put into the game. Like every time we go on CIV, it's like a hamster running on a wheel not accomplishing anything - but it SEEMS like we're accomplishing so much! Doesn't it? What an addictive game!

play long and proud my fellow civers! If I had a chance, I would probably go continous for around 40 hours or so. However, school (retchid thing it is) and parents, who for some reason won't just feed and cloth me, then leave me alone, restrict me from playing. I'm getting good at playing till 2 in the morning and waking up b4 7 to get in some more time....

Hmmm... Suppose I beat most of you then... :crazyeye:

Once I was without my grand computer, and was stuck with my old K6-2 450mhz rusty lad. With an 1,2 gb hd there isn't much you could do, except Win98 and CivIII.. The weekend I played straight for about 34 hours before I collapsed on the keyboard. :p

I made some errors, like the already-mentioned building Hoover Dam on a 3 cities island and disasemble all my Mech inf instead of all my workers... Hmmm... :D

I think the longest I've gone is from around 7am-4am.

One of my best games ever started one beautiful Sunday evening at around 5 pm. At 9 the following morning I unfortunately had to leave my simulated subjects alone for a while because my education got in the way -- I had to go to a math lecture. At least it was about probability, so I could spend the time pondering combat odds. I got home 4 hours later, and kept on playing... the game ended in my victory at around 4 in the morning.

Yes, I am badly addicted.

I find it hard to play after dark. Odd, I know, but then I always know that I'll go downstairs and it'll be like waking up after being sick and sleeping all day. It's just too weird. I get the chills playing any games after dark (even not-scary ones). I'm just weird like that. :-P

In regards to the under-the-influence question, I felt the total opposite of getting drunk after playing Civ3. I become all lethargic and depressed. Maybe I'm just getting too drunk...or not drunk enough...hehehe...

yes sadly my dad is sortof "anti computer" so i count myself lucky to get in 2hr a week. :( it really sucks because i really like this game

I just got done doing my longest session in history. I'm really liking this "ptw". I played for a little over 10 hours. Took a few breaks though. Spent most of my breaks looking at a civ3 discuss board! :p

Won a game, lost a game. Freaking Vikings slaughtered me in one game.

Its hard to get away from civ. I'll play an hour long session, go to do some homework, and when I finish a few questions, I have to check back here at CFC. Then, while I'm on my computer, I might as well get a few turns in that good game I'm playing, then two hours later its Sunday night and I've done nothing! ;) I'm sure everyone here has had the same experience...it just sucks you in...

NEVER try to do hw and civ3 at the same time. It just doesn't mix. And it's really hard to concentrate on hw when Civ3 and CFC is on your mind...

I've tried to do that before.

I feel for you, when I lived with my parents my dad was the same way. The only time I got to play computer was before he got home from work. I AM SO SORRY YOU HAVE TO SUFFER THROUGH THIS.

Like I really want to broadcast the extent of my obsessiveness to the world... HA!

I'll never tell my longest straight session... or even my average for that matter.

All day long sessions are common for me. When i lived at home my mom would complain about me being awake when she went to bed and awake when she woke up.
