Looking for a Game Manual

Let me start this by stating that we (my wife and I) recently moved to Mac from PC. I still own my PC, but Mac does all the heavy lifting for us now. We moved because she's starting her Graphic Desing major, and, as 99% of the world knows, Mac is the GD platform of choice. So anyways, I offer that tidbit of personal info to preface any comment I make regarding Macs as ignorant at best.

Ok, so we move to Mac, and I need to get games. I procur a copy of Civ III through, shall we say, "popular" means. The problem with the "popular" method is that it doesn't come with a manual to mill through this beast of a game with. Now I'm a Civ addict from back in the day, so I tried shooting from the hips with this game thinking, "How different can it be, really?" I found that to be a bad idea very quickly especially given my extremly limited knowledge of Macs (I just found out that Ctrl + Command equals right-click).

So I went online in search of a Mac Civ III manual. I found none because all of the world hates Mac products and refuses to sell it - but I did find this excellent site. So here's my question: does anyone know how I could get a copy of the Civ III Mac manual on the cheap? Also, will the Strategy Guide suffice as an adequate replacement for the manual? I have no problem with purchasing the Strategy Guide, but I don't want to waste my money.

Uh, we're not supportive at all of the "popular" method for acquiring Civ3. Many reasons, but since we're die-hard Civ3 gamers, the "popular" method doesn't do anything to encourage the publisher to port the add-on game Conquests. So, if you find this is a game you really love, please go out and let your wallet vote. Okay, enough of the heavy stuff.

You really don't need the manual, much of it is inaccurate anyhow since it was printed long before the game was released. Same goes for the Strategy Guide. You can get all you need right here through these methods:

(1) post questions here and someone will provide an answer
(2) read the War Academy
(3) browse the Strategy & Tips subforum

Thanks for the posting the file, dojo. That's exactly what I needed.

As for the "popular" method, I wanted to test the game out. If I like it, I'm going to get the "Play the World" version. I just didn't want to go out and purchase an untested product (despite the rave reviews).

Good, glad it helps. The "lending library" is essential, fully support it. Hope to see ya around the mac forum. You'll find most people here are mature, bright, and helpful. Well, at least I am!

Man, I hate feeling like a noob (especially when I am).

I'm looking at that wonderful chart, but I don't understand the columns for the units. A, D, & M I get, but the B, R, F, T, & O make no sense to me.

Could someone please explain?

I don't use that chart, but I think:

For bombard units B=bombard strength, R = range, F = rate of fire

For units that can contain other units T = transport capacity

Fro aircraft O = operational range - how far can they fly to a target?

You're thinking "Mature" as in "Aged in the wood" I assume? I'm actually enjoying my second (or was that third?) childhood, so mature physically? Certainly. Mentally? Perish the thought.
