Hiya,
I'd like to get a map script that would be kind of like a combination of Continents and Archipelago, so that the map generated would contain both big continents but also small isles or isle chains. Is there such a map or could I do one like that by adjusting sea level or something from setup when starting a new game?

Also, what sort of maps does Fractal generate?

Fractal maps tend to make long and narrow continents.

The Terra map makes earth-like maps, though it may not make enough islands for your taste.

I play fractal all the time, it's a popular map type. You could describe it as a combination of pangaea and continents. On small maps I think I got mostly pangaeas with it, on standard mostly continents, but the landmasses are pretty irregularly shaped all the time.
On small continents I think the chance is quite big that you'll start alone or with just one neighbour on an island, although that should depend on the map size as well, of course.

The "Continents Plus" Script creates almost exactly what you are talking about, the shameful part is you have to pay for it. Its in the "Explorers Map Pack" DLC available as a standalone purchase, or bundled with the Denmark DLC. There are actually quite a few interesting map scripts with this one, including Pangaea Plus and Amazon (there are also several others).

Yes, this 'Continents Plus' map script fits the bill exactly.

A problem with all maps with islands is that always there are city states on there, so you don't get the excitement of discovering a new bit of pristine world that's waiting to be settled. Only an occasional 3-tile island or so will still be free, but that isn't the same thing.

Thanks for answers, guess I'll order one Explorers map pack then.. :)
But be warned what Optional said, if you play with City States, they'll be put on the island chains/achipelago-bit.

But apart from that the Continents Plus-map is probably what you're looking for.

You can reasonably emulate "Continents Plus" script behavior by using the Small Continents/Low Sea Level setting.

As far as City States go, I always turn them off so it's not a problem for me.

Thought I'd pass this on in case you wanted to try it before shelling out for some overpriced "map pack."

Personally I found the Explorer's Pack the €1,50 worth (I bought it together with Denmark, so then it's only an additional €1,50. Or both were €3,- depending how you look at it).
So 'overpriced' is an opinion :)

And to get a bit more ontopic:
Is there maybe a custom map script in the mods browser (maybe Perfectworld) that can do this? :)
(For the people who find the price of a can of cola overpriced ;) :p )

I believe you can set a lot of options in Perfectworld, if I remember well?
