I know (because I've seen the finishes) that is is possible to get the tech tree filled out in the turn 180 time frame. What is the strategy for doing that?

I'm replaying a map that I know well now to see what can be done to get a fast science victory. I seem to be able to get a good start. Stonehenge and religion by turn 30, all the good city spots with 8 cities up by turn 70.

I've tried two different approaches, beeline to Universities then Research Labs, the other is beeline to Universities, get Economics, then go for Research Labs. The first way I got the techs faster, but didn't have enough money to buy a spaceport. The second way I had enough money, but still finished about the same time, around turn 230.

I've got my science up into the 400s by the time everything is up and running, but it is taking a good 100 turns to get to the point.

Is there a rule of thumb tech order that is most effective?

If you are at 400 science by T100 you have got to be getting closer to finishing it by T180 without additional help.
Getting to moon landing is a pretty common first push.

I've used the Sat/Globalization strategy, but not getting culture fast enough. It helps, but only shaving off about 10 turns or so, so far. Obviously, more culture would be a big help to this. :)

On the science, it is more like 200 to 220 around turn 100. I will get it up to 400, but what I meant it is taking 100 turns to push it up from the 200s into the 400s needed to be churning out the techs at the end.

I guess a better question is how to get into the 300-400s in the turn 100-120 time frame.

I suspect that culture might be my problem, I need more of it earlier to get access to the policies. I'm chasing the campuses and buildings, but enlightenment is coming too late.

Something to keep fooling around with, thanks for the comments everyone!

Get those science CS, Free them if you have to
Stick specialists in...2 specialists =4 science. In 10 cities 40. You do not need to grow more.
Can you get benefit out of Kilwa? Have you 2 science CS
The great scientists that give better libs and unis
International trade routes can bring in a bit
Projects, I mean what else is there valuable to do.
It’s a question of how many cities you have.

Understand that not every map/location relative to enemy will be conducive this. But yes, it is a lot of spamming and conquering to achieve sub t140 wins on SV. Also, with the exception of goddess of the harvest, I would avoid religion like the plague, as it functions as just another giant opportunity cost for fast wins.

edit:Things like early science CS make a massive difference as well, as the bonus +2(?) science compounds greatly if you beeline horseback riding or stirrups or education for that matter. Probably not the best person to give advice, I play Deity(for whatever that is even worth anymore), but I haven't been going for fast wins in a while. Just been screwin around.

Thanks Victoria,

The putting specialists in the science districts early enough looks to be one of my mistakes. I ran the same map again, with a bit of conquering of the Cree to take 4 of his developed cities and had a turn 201 finish. That was about 30 turns faster that before. On the last turns, after getting Globalization, I was seeing about 950 science per turn.

I'm trying the map one more time with peaceful strategy, an earlier Kilwa, and getting those specialists in as soon as possible to get a benchmark.

I played the map a couple more times, and had a good bit of success the the following strategy, I was able to get a turn 195 SV.

Playing as China
Turn 25 - Stonehenge let me get Goddess of the harvest, Jesuit, and religious Colonization
Worked to get cities out, around turn 60 was able to drop about 8 cities with Ancestral hall active
Turn 63 - Made sure to get Hypatia
Turn 90ish - Start upgrading to knights then took out a really tough Cree city, kept at war until I'd taken 4 of Cree's large cities
Between 90-110 I got Kilwa up, only one Science CS on the map, so made sure I was Suzerain of Lisbon, Stockholm, and Kumasi. Leveraged the Kumasi Suz bonus on trade routes for large culture benefit.
Turn 120 start sailing a settler to a tree covered island to the south, with some units to take out the barbs.
Start building an IZ in the south city for space projects later, I later leveraged Big Ben to buy the space port.
Keep working to get all the inspirations I can, push up get to democracy and nuclear fission around the same time.
Around turn 175 I chop out the satellite and moon landing. 4 turns to globalization from there. With 5 CS Suz my science is now 1150.
Make sure I got all the inspirations and tech up to the last three mars modules.
Use royal society to pump builders into the space project, while waiting for the final tech.
Chop out the final projects. The city location I was using had 13 forest and a deer.

Keeping my money flow high was important, I had to buy power plants, airports, and a lot of builders. Getting flight early and building the biplanes helped shave about 5 turns.
